Ridiculous. I can understand opting out of the Myrtle Beach Bowl but the Peach? WTF?

Stever said it best...and in this case this is the only Bowl Game that matters outside of the CFP...The Senior Bowl in which Kenny Pickett is playing in....I just post for information about who is playing or not...I see it as a decision that is truly up to the athlete...no right or wrong on this.

RE: Bowl Opt outs
Players have to decide the best path to a professional career. None of us would be upset if the star Chemical Engineer at our school decided to skip the prestigious Senior year engineering exhibition the school runs to instead accept an internship with Exxon.

These are job oriented decisions, and those who have draft potential are usually getting professional advice, even before they officially sign on the dotted line.

Why opt out of an NY6 bowl only to opt in to the Senior Bowl if risk of injury is your reason?

Another reason would be that a player, especially a QB, can spend the time after the regular season working with a QB coach who specializes in getting QBs ready for the NFL pre-draft combines. Another reason would be that by leaving the team before the bowl game, the player can leave school and doesn't have to take final exams, whereas any player playing in a bowl game has to stay in school and pass enough fall semester courses to remain eligible.

benefit of playing in the Senior Bowl, with actual NFL coaching staffs far outweighs playing in an exhibition bowl game.

Also it is a Job Interview with the 32 NFL Teams. Also many if they perform well during the Senior Bowl practices they will opt out of the actual game.

More from Ohio State:

Additionally, Ryan Day confirmed to reporters on Monday that fellow wideout Chris Olave, defensive lineman Haskell Garrett and offensive lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere have opted out of the bowl to focus on the draft.

Wilson recorded 2,213 yards receiving and 23 touchdowns in three seasons with the Buckeyes. He had 1,058 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns as a junior in 2021 and was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. A likely first-round pick, Wilson is ranked as the No. 8 prospect and the top wide receiver in the CBS Sports 2022 NFL Draft prospect rankings.

Ok with teams opting out because of bs Covid and players opting out because of the NFL and the coming playoff expansion…. Why do we still have bowls?

Thank god. We were already down to 3rd string DBs going against Oregon and lost another CB to an ACL on the last drive of the CCG. We are moving a backup RB to DB so that we can field a unit- and he’s probably going to start. That position group can’t lose anybody to COVID, because we have nobody left.

This would be my answer if ESPiN wasn't helping with replacing teams. That has not happened in all cases.

I like watching bowl games too. I want the same amount of games this time of year I just want more of the games to be playoffs.

One could argue that it's a purer form of college football, since they'd be played by guys who would never make an NFL lineup.

I'm not sure how much power ESPN has to make things happen. We're talking schools that have dispersed to the four winds for the holidays. And given the virus, it can't be easy to round up bowl participants on the fly right now.
