With UNM's low NET ranking, it won't count for much, but at least does help equalize taking the bad loss to them. NET doesn't care about rivalries.
The Lobo players brought it upon themselves with their antics in the PAC. And the Lobo fans can thank their players for the Aggies players antics in the Pit...

Oh, I agree completely that they brought it on. But if a NMSU player got into a brawl with some of their idiot students because he was dancing thru the student section, it would look bad on us when it makes the news. And the news covering it probably isn't going to go back and show what they did in LC.
I just don't like things to be too heated other than the actual play of the game, that's all.
Regardless, good to get the win and move on with the rest of the season at 3-1.

Its' still not as bad as the Aggie/UVU game in Orem with KC Ross-Miller.
As long as the Aggie team doesn't cross the line by getting physical and are acting as the counter puncher in the rivalry, I'm not going to get too worked up by their behavior.

Good win, I am a little old school here, win with class, lose with class. I kind of wish more sports would take the rugby approach, when the match finishes, no matter how hard fought it was, the two teams respect each other.

This UNM game helps NMSU prepare for the teams like GCU and Seattle which both have strong guard tandems. UNM's Jamal Mashburn Jr. (21.0 ppg, 41.5 3FG%) and Jaelen House (18.8 ppg, 4.3 apg, 1.9 spg, 34.8 3FG%) are two tough guards to defend one-on-one. Both are lightening quick and highly skilled... and, not unlike GCU's Jovan Blacksher Jr. (16.1 ppg, 4.1 apg, 2.0 spg, 42.6 3FG%) and Holland Woods II (13.4 ppg, 3.1 apg, 41.5 3FG%); and Seattle's Darrion Trammell (13.4 ppg, 5.8 apg, 2.4 spg, 35.0 3FG%) and Cam Tyson (16.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 42.9 3FG%).

The post-game antics shouldn't have happened, but it was the 2nd of the rivalry games of the season and UNM had already won the first one. For NMSU to come back at the last second on UNMs home court is definitely going to rile both sides up. The coaches stepped in and I didn't see it get too far out of control.

I don’t think there is any respect lost between players and coaches. It’s the fans that it really pissed off. And that’s what a rivalry game usually is. Great game last night though. Well great finish and solid second half by NMSU. I was iffy on our chances and probably a little too harsh on our team during the first half.

While it is not until Week #6, the team you play on the 14th, previously winless Texas Southern, just knocked off Ranked Florida in Gainesville by 15.
For your and NAU's sake, beat them.
Texas Southern is usually at or near the top of their conference, and we're 10-11 vs them. Should be a good game.

Just for the heck of it. Below are the current combined records of the D1 teams each WAC team has faced; followed by the adjusted record against D1 opponents only; followed by the combined records of the D1 teams each WAC team actually beat. I listed this based on winning percentage of the WAC teams' opponents.
Dixie State………........... 37-11 (0.771)… 1-5… 5-3
UT Rio Grande Valley….. 38-18 (0.679)… 2-5… 8-9
Tarleton State…….......... 36-20 (0.643)… 0-7… 0-0
Sam Houston State…….. 33-20 (0.623)… 1-5… 4-5
New Mexico State…….... 39-24 (0.619)… 6-2… 28-18
Stephen F. Austin……….. 27-17 (0.614)… 4-2… 12-13
Lamar…………………......... 33-23 (0.589)… 0-7… 0-0
Abilene Christian………... 16-16 (0.500)… 2-2… 3-13
Chicago State…………..... 33-34 (0.493)… 3-5… 8-17
California Baptist………... 19-27 (0.413)… 5-1… 13-26
Utah Valley……………....... 24-36 (0.400)… 6-1… 20-32
Grand Canyon…………..... 25-43 (0.368)… 7-1… 17-43
Seattle U…………………..... 25-44 (0.362)… 5-2… 13-38
Just food for thought when looking at some of the WAC team's current records.

Cool post and great analysis. UTRGV not doing that bad considering their opponents records and the fact that they’re with a first year head coach after losing Lew Hill.

Gillespie is playing almost everybody on the bench and I like it. We are not playing well as a team but we are getting some kids experience.

I've already said it, but Tarleton will indeed start winning. You have already made some big steps since last year.

It’s halftime with Tarleton leading 46-36.
We have played 14 kids who haven’t played together very much, and it shows.
We held Gonzaga to 26 at half with playing our starters. Pretty sure Dallas Christian isn’t 10 points better than the Zags.
Again, I like what we are doing tonight.

Tarleton wins tonight over Dallas Christian. Looks like Noah McDavid had a good game (25 points).

I can't imagine how much work it took to put this table together. Thanks.
It shows what most of suspected anyway, that NMSU has the best demonstrated performance so far.

Yup, you are correct. Not sure how I came up with 4-4. I think I counted the lower level wins and failed to count the loss against Northern Arizona. I will correct in my post. However, it is no longer actuate as the previous D1 opponent's records are changing daily. I will revisit this chart once the OOC schedule is complete.
On a side not, NMSU add another level division home game against UT Permian Basin (12/20/21) to fill out the Aggie schedule. Before the season started, Cal State Fullerton bowed out as an Aggie opponent, opening up a slot on the schedule.
