Postseason football honors
I'm sure we'll start seeing a lot of these.
Pro Football Focus released their all-conference teams (they do it based on their analytics). We had a decent amount on the all-MAC team:
First team
Van Hoeven
Ramirez
Second team
Beydoun
Sow
Ryland
Third team
Bryant
Honorable mention
Hamilton
Dooley
Julien

Julian is the best punter in the MAC and Ryland was the best kicker this year. Bryant would be my MAC new comer of the year.

ive avoided calling this player out by name - but theres a name on this list that is a complete head scratcher for me. I dont see it - i think hes the weak spot of his position group.

Without mentioning names, what position does he play?

Did Konata Mumpfield from Akron get 1st team all MAC? He was just named 1st team ALL AMERICAN freshman WR! That's mighty impressive! The other is Xavier Worthy from Texas, who was A 5 star recruit, who'll be most likely A 1st round draft pick!

Two O-Lineman on the 1st and 2nd teams?! Wow, congrats to them.
I was big on the O-Line early in the season and the last few games......wow we stunk. I understand there were injuries (Donellon and Howie) so I accepted we would takea small hit but they gave up 7 sacks against CMU in a game to win the Michigan Mac.
ALso, Ramirez played great in spurts but he was a microcosm of the entire defense. When they played with a chip on their shoulder, they were VERY good but more often than not it was painful watching teams dictate whatever they wanted against us given our scheme and personnel.
Kudos to Beydoun who is so easy to root for. Local guy, volunteers, stud on the field and busts his ass. Ben Bryant also had a good year along with our specialists Ryland and Julien who are special.
No love for Rush? Surprising because he is one of the few difference makers on defense.
Not sure how PFF does this but I'll be eagerly anticipating All-MAC awards. I would assume Ben and Beydoun pick up 2nd team All-MAC awards.

Another year of disrespect for Hassan Beydoun, who I think is clearly one of the best 2 or 3 receivers in the MAC. He and Ryland were the MVP’s of the team for me. Hard to pick anyone on our defense, but Ramirez had some solid games.

I was glad to see Pro Football Focus include Van Hoeven on their first team list, and am likewise disappointed to see him ignored by the MAC. He is a hell of a Center and has been able to maintain outstanding grades as a student-athlete (I believe he has a 4.0 GPA, or damn near there). Mike is the kind of athlete any team would be proud to have on their roster. Shame on the MAC for ignoring him!

Just tallied the amount of non-special team All-MAC players on teams 1 through 3 for the West Division.
Toledo 10
NIU 9
CMU 9
WMU 9
EMU 5
Ball St 3
I can whine ad nauseam about our lousy tackling and others can complain about play calling and lack of running game BUT we just are not getting the "horses" our brethren are getting. Until we can figure a way to join those top four programs, we probably have hit our MAC ceiling.
Bye the way congrats to Q Williams who also made third team at Buffalo.

The reality is future prospects want to play where they feel there’s a chance to win a MACC. CC has been at EMu 8 seasons and we haven’t come close to a MACC. The MAC coaches will use that legacy to negatively recruit against EMU - just the cold facts.

And the Eagles' coaches can use it positively telling recruits, "You're just the kind of player who can come in here and help us continue to turn things around."

Agree with Cid, that CC thrives on getting those types of guys. It's just my opinion but I don't think high school kids care about the MACC the way that we as fans do. I think the recruits care about the following....
1. likeability of coaches
2. facilities
3. playing time after redshirt yr.
4. exposure on big state to put their play on film
I just don't think guys are not committing based on the MACC. I bet most guys don't know who won it 2 yrs ago. I would love it if we won, but I'd be happier with the 8 or 9 win total that would get a bigger pool of talent for recruiting.

Lucky you are spot on! Creighton has elevated the program, much like Schiano has done at Rutgers but at the end of the day, EMU is the perceived conference doormat and receives recruits as such. When your best MAC record is 5-3, that is not going to change anything either.

I think the recruiting has improved dramatically over the past few season. This season we currently have the 8th best class in the MAC, which isn't great, but if you look at the average rating per recruit we have the highest ranking. This year is also kind of weird with guys getting and extra year, so you don't have the normal number of kids committed. With schools being limited I wonder if guys are waiting until this early signing period (December 15th) and you'll see group of five teams add a lot of guys after that.
Working backwards our classes have been ranking 7th, 6th, 10th, 6th. Once you get passed that you get a lot of 10th and lower. So I'd hardly say we are recruiting like the conference doormat the past five cycles. A MAC title might move us from the middle of the pack range to the top group, but I think it's unfair to say we've been getting bottom level recruits.
