doubtful. too many bridges burned (IMHO)
It's also pretty obvious he cant win with his own recruits. His best years at JMU and ECU were largely with the previous staffs players. No way would I want him back
That last week of his tenure spoke volumes. Before that week, he was one of my favorites. After that week, no way.
He doesn't deserve JMU.
Agree. I will go to my grave convinced he threw the Colgate game.

Agreed not a fan anymore but let’s not get carried away with the Colgate game. Dinucci threw 5 interceptions in that game and I can’t imagine Mike Houston dialed that up as the game plan.

What would that bring him?
Given the evidence we have at hand, I think a more accurate explanation would be that he just mailed it in, and it cost the team.

Colgate only managed to get 1 FG out of all of those picks and we lost by a FG. But I'm glad he's gone, I would hate to see him back, and Pry is doing a good job at VT.

I totally believe he mailed it in as well. However, I don't think he fully realized how much he mailed it in until the game blew up in his face. You could see the dejection in his face at the end game presser. He knew he did the team wrong and he couldn't deny it.

Well, no, you don't dial up 5 picks.
You could, however, fail to prepare for a specific kind of coverage, or a specific pass rush, or a set of circumstances that have your QB running for his life and throwing on the run in 3rd and long a few times.
So that might just be at least somewhat on the coach.

Or, once you finally have momentum, and have tied the score and have the ability to pin Colgate deep with time to get the ball back, you dial up the most obvious fake punt in the history of fake punts. Then lose by a FG as time expires.
He was aching to get to ECU.
As I type this, I can't believe how much better we have it now. On all fronts.

No, he didn't dial it up. What he did was put his faith in Donnie Kirkpatrick who designed an offense that can best be described as bizarre. With a very poorly coached offensive line that had no idea what pass protection was, DK tried to turn DiNucci into Joe Flacco, a statue of a pocket passer. Never mind that Nooch was very
mobile and fast and our OL couldn't give him even a full second to find a receiver, DK stuck to his guns. And, THAT is why we lost games to friggin' Elon, UNH, and Toothpaste U in 2018.
So, you are right, Houston didn't dial up the game plan, but he sure as hell was responsible for it.
The really funny part about Houston's downfall is he took DK to ECU with him where together they turned a piece of crap football program into an even bigger piece of crap football program.

Why the hell did ECU give Houston an extension to 2026 back in 2021? I just found this out when looking at when his contract ends and was surprised there's still 3 years left.
That's the only reason why he wasn't fired after this year.

He looked to have the program on the upswing and ECU wanted to make sure he didn't leave.
That being said, look to ECU as an example of how bad hires at AD can destroy a once proud program. They had one AD who was spectacularly bad in Jeff Compher (JMU grad) and they haven't come close to recovering.
