Cashion tries to be patient as arm heals</span>

By Jeff O'Rear
American Sports Writer

Mike Cashion is quickly learning that patience really is a virtue.

Cashion, a junior pitcher from Clinton, is rehabilitating his arm that was operated on in April and is not able to fully participate in fall practice with the University of Southern Mississippi baseball team.

"You have no idea, it's frustrating," Cashion said during the team's practice Wednesday at Pete Taylor Park. "Coming out here to see everybody practice and everyone is throwing on the mound, I haven't been able to throw on the mound in six months now. It's frustrating."

Cashion is on a throwing program trying to rehab his pitching (right) arm for a possible return before the season starts in the spring.

"I don't know," Cashion said when asked about a timetable for his return to action. "The trainers don't know for sure, so I'm kind of up in the air. I think I will be (back for the season). I'll do everything in my power to be back. It (arm) feels real good. It'll take time.

"I think I'll be ready to go but it'll be up to how my arm feels."

For head coach Corky Palmer, patience is also key in waiting for the pitcher to return.

"He won't throw to a mitt this fall," Palmer said. "It'll probably be January. It's going to take some time."
