Drastically reducing tuition would be a bold move from the university. We are obviously not going to win a facilities arms race with GVSU and candidates seem to be gravitating to the city life of GR, which has greatly improved over the last 10-15 years.

Almost everyone had an enrollment drop last year . A nice graphic to explain

I think this pretty much sums it up.

Has anyone taken a good look at the new apparel at the bookstore lately? It is absolutely embarrassing.

I did this week. Asked about an older flag but they had the new one. I told them I wouldn’t buy anything with the new logo on it. They responded “yeah, we hear that a-lot. Most don’t like it”

RE: WMU CMU GVSU all have enrollment drops
We all here are not oblivious to the reality that Michigan's population has been declining since 2008 with no end in sight and that we have 11 state schools that all can't stick around forever unless the state drastically increases funding. Which is obviously very unlikely. What is to help WMU survive? All the regional Michigan schools are unlikely to survive IMO.

Hate to think of it like this. Where are the WMU regents? They are elected, right? Time to wake up and charter the right path for WMU.

UM has an elected Board of Regents. MSU has an elected Board of Trustees. WMU has a governor appointed Board of Trustees.

I'm hoping the recent gift, if distributed correctly throughout the years, will help WMU weather the storm.

The yellow flag they put out is an absolute disgrace to WMU. You can find the previous logo flags on Amazon.

I don't believe this news is worthy of a new thread, in particular because it isn't all on Grand Valley, but the just had their 5th student death this semester for various reasons -- and I will not go into details here. My daughter, while overall happy with GVSU, has also complained about a number of issues there. My main point is that GVSU is not immune to issues other universities face...

Has the Grand Valley student who disappeared while visiting MSU been found?

No, I don't believe they ever found him. He was one of the five I mentioned above -- so I suspect there is still hope he is found alive.

I believe 3 of the recent gvsu students who passed were all from Rochester (non related)

This is according to my daughter -- so take it with a grain of salt: cancer; car accident; drowning; possible suicide; and suicide.

Ugh, that sucks. But as OJ Simpson once said: People die every day. Five students at a large state school dying in one year isn't really news.

And it appears GVSU is headed to Division 1 athletic status for the 2023-2024 school year (FCS). That will be another blow to attracting students for WMU.

I read somewhere yesterday that CMU has lost 36% of their enrollment since 2016! 04-jawdrop

Will they even be around in 5-10 years? It was always a head scratcher to me why any sane person would voluntarily go to CMU.

If this is true, it's long overdue. They already have an enrollment and athletic budget that surpasses many FCS schools.

It will be interesting to see how they do when they're no longer the big fish in a small pond. Been that way for a long time now.

Yes, and their enrollment is down nearly 50% from 2010ish.

Enrollment is plummeting at many schools in Michigan and the midwest, but CMU is hurting more than most.

It's such a different landscape than even 10 years ago. There will be major changes over the next 10 years. I'm predicting the smaller public schools may be forced to pack up shop or consolidate with other schools. Places like LSSU, Northern Michigan, Saginaw Valley...that don't have the money or prestige to compete with the rest of the in-state public schools. We're in uncharted waters here. It's gotta be a scary time for anyone in higher education.

The coaches that told the recruits that information either have inside info, are woefully uninformed, or are lying.

Have to believe the coaches know something. The coaches and players wouldn't be putting that out there if they weren't convinced it is happening.
