NKU 70 Miami 59
Kent had beaten NKU earlier this season. Another example of a MAC team getting killed 49-29 on the boards resulting in a loss

RE: WBB Scores/News of MAC Teams and UT Opponents, 2021-22
Kent State 75 #19 UCLA 69
Great win for Kent State. Watched parts of it and they were clearly the much better team. The qualifier to this is that UCLA only dressed 8 players - reportedly a bunch of injuries already. UCLA probably missed 15-20 shots from within 5 feet. Still, big win for the MAC.

One downer for Kent is that starting PG Modkins left with an injury after colliding hard with her own teammate and didn't return.

Wow, great win for Kent State, and a great start to the season for them. Losing Modkins would hurt, but she is not their best point guard, even though she is the starter. Casey Santoro is more productive and plays more minutes.

Finals:

SFA 87 Ball St 66

UMass 72 Kent 64
Modkins did play today, so good to see not a serious injury yesterday.

Buffalo 62 JMU 45
Fair had 26 and was the only Bull to sink a 3. JMU 1-18 from three.

BTW, UCLA lost their 2nd straight to South Dakota St. 76-66, and again only dressed 8.

Other than the Kent win over UCLA, (who seem now to be a depleted team,) a pretty dismal holiday weekend for the MAC. Only other MAC wins were UT over Idaho St, and Buffalo over JMU. Several games tomorrow to try to get some wins.

Re: other UT opponents:

Oakland is now 2-4 with wins over Robert Morris and Niagra. Losses include Michigan and Michigan state, which were not blowouts any worse than UT beat them.

Dayton lost to perennial powerhouse Mississippi St, and beat Illinois

Wright St still winless.

RE: WBB Scores/News of MAC Teams and UT Opponents, 2021-22
Liberty 76 BG 72
I know it's a broken record now, but rebounding is killing MAC teams - today, Liberty 44 BG 20. BG was down 10 at the half and came back and took the lead before falling behind again.

Loyola Chicago 69 Miami 52
Saw a little bit of this one, and Loyola looked really good, or Miami really bad, not sure which.

CMU 56 Marist 50
CMU's shooting woes continue, as they shot 5-29 from three, and yet still pulled out a win. Doesn't appear Marist is a strong opponent tho, as they are now 2-4, and their 2 wins were not over great teams (Vermont and Drexel).

NIU 69 Milwaukee 50
Milwaukee took Ball State to OT earlier this year, so this looks like a good win, given the margin. NIU committed 20 turnovers, and still won by 19.

Ball State 73 St. Joseph's 67
Ball State trailed pretty much the whole game and didn't take the lead until 3 minutes left. St. Joe's is 1-6 though, with the only win over Maryland Eastern Shore, who has not beaten a D1 opponent yet.

Later, Kent plays Penn State.

Kent State 81 Penn State 74
Always a good win to beat a B1G team. Rebounding the complete difference in the game - Kent 46 PSU 23. PSU is now 4-3 and has not beaten a team with a winning record - teams losing to PSU this year are a combined 3-19, and they lost to Iowa State by 30+. Not trying to take away a great weekend for Kent, just to put things in perspective.

CMU doesn't look like the team which has dominated the MAC in recent years. Lack of quality teammates for the point guard to support her 20 pts/game.

Yeah, definitely not that team right now. Biggest problem they have right now is no one can hit a three - team is shooting 20%, and that's a problem for a team that has historically relied on volume threes to win games. Three true freshmen get a ton of minutes, so it would not surprise me if they do improve some come MAC season tho.

It's ironic for UT that the year that there is no dominate team of the old MAC west group, there are no divisions. Looks like from play so far, Kent, Ohio, Buffalo and maybe BG are the 4 best teams, with then a group in the middle (UT, NIU, EMU, CMU, Ball St) and then the rest (Akron, Miami, WMU). But those things can change as the year progresses.

I agree that at this early-stage UT looks to be just outside the top 4. But there is certainly room for significant improvement as the team works together. I am impressed with how they take care of the basketball and their versatility.

Bowling Green looked good coming into the season but has not accomplished much with their best player out for the season.

Reportedly Wright State has cancelled their next 3 games due to COVID. 2 are conference games, and thus forfeits per league rules. So that's at least 3 Horizon League schools that I know of with COVID cancellations - IUPUI, Fort Wayne, and now WSU. Stay safe out there everyone.

RE: WBB Scores/News of MAC Teams and UT Opponents, 2021-22
Well the MAC looked to really increase it's resume tonight, as:

Ohio 98 FAMU 45 (FAMU is now 0-4)
WMU 69 Valpo 54 (Valpo is now 0-6)
Akron 67 Detroit Mercy 60 (UDM is now 0-6) - Jordan Dawson did not play for Akron for an unknown reason.

Is it any wonder the MAC can't get multiple NCAA bids?

Also, can the MAC get their internet act together. OU played FAMU, but their live stats said they were playing Mercyhurst, and after the game was over OU tweeted that they beat Cincinnati. Seriously, this is 2021. These things should not be that hard to get right.

Buffalo 95 Niagara 55
Niagara had lost to Oakland, but certainly not by 40.

Cincinnati 59 CMU 54
OU had beaten Cincy by 11. CMU was down by 19 at the half, and the same after 3. Tale of 2 halves. In the 1st, CMU looked just awful, had 15 TOs and couldn't hit a shot. In the 2nd half, just the opposite, Cinci looked awful and CMU started to hit a couple threes, but not enough to come all the way back. CMU plays Oakland next.

Ball State 86 Fort Wayne 58
This was the make-up game for the earlier cancellation due to COVID issues with PFW.

As a side note, I see Areionna Ware is no longer on the PFW roster. Saw some tweets that she and another player suffered serious injuries before the season and presumably have left the program.
