21-22 WBB Season

We almost frittered it away, squandering a 7-point lead in the last 90 seconds before pulling it out in overtime. Riley Casey definitely looks like a keeper -- she put the team on her back and carried them to victory in the overtime. I believe the announcer said that she scored 9 points in overtime.

GMU shot a perfect 12/12 and we shot 83% 10/12 from the charity stripe but we somehow managed to win by 9. It’s like a miracle or something.

Bwhahahhahahha, just messing with you.

Hmm, the box score says 12-12 but the play-by-play has GMU missing a free throw right at the end of overtime. Seriously, GMU needed every bit of that 12-12 to tie the game in regulation (going 4-4 in the last minute, including 2-2 to tie it with less than 1 second left) and in OT (5-6). W&M was perfect from the line in overtime (Sydney Wagner was 4-4 in OT, 7-7 for the game).

By the way, Riley Casey made 10 points in overtime, not 9 as I quoted above.

RE: 21-22 WBB Season
UGH !!!! A bad, bad, ugly game against UVa today. Tribe women are losing 57-32 as I write this, with 4+ minutes to play. I think part of it is that the Tribe has a deer in the headlights look about them because we haven't played UVa in something like 20 years (we have beaten them just one time, way back in 1973). This is UVa's first home win of the season. They lost to UR last time out (who is somebody the Tribe plays every year and it is a competitive series) so I thought the Tribe had a good chance going in.

Riley Casey did not play due to injury.

Sydney Wagner played about 33 minutes and had only 6 points.

Kate Sramac played about 34 minutes and had only 2 points.

Oh well, an opportunity lost!

EDIT: Final score 60-47. The Tribe made up some ground in garbage time against the Wahoo subs. Oh no, they just took away a 3-pointer at the buzzer by the Tribe...so now the final score is 60-44.

Rebekah Frisby-Smith had a good game with 7 points and Ava Stevenson had 6.

The turnovers were 22 for W&M, 23 for UVa.

Nobody has posted in a while so I figured that I'd catch everyone up. Since the loss to UVA we've lost to ODU by 13, Hampton by 17, and Richmond by 38. Much tougher OOC schedule than the men.

They've also lost their past three games playing without their leading scorer and #1 sub.

RE: 21-22 WBB Season
It is definitely a huge loss that Riley Casey is out with an ankle injury; especially so since this is her last (and only) year with the Tribe—— every game counts. However, even though her PPG might be the highest (by what, maybe 1 point), remember that it is calculated on only a handful of games. Based on her stats from last year — where she was so good in only half a season that she made Second Team All-CAA — it is really Sydney Wagner who should be leading this team in scoring. So Sydney is the one who Coach Swanson needs to get straightened out, and quickly. Defenses are keying on her so Casey needs to come back soon to take some of the pressure off.

I think Ava Stevenson is quickly becoming a top scoring sub. She might be starting before the end of the year.

Riley Casey returned from injury today and helped lead the Tribe to a 5 point win over Norfolk St.. Sydney Wagner scored 25.

Evidently (pun intended) there's a law suit out there re this program. Is there an attorney (or someone else) on this board who can share how to access it (i.e., find on the internet)? I'm only able to find decade-old one filed by a player vs. Sacred Heart University and this coach.

Different from the potential Title IX lawsuit and the Tribe 7?

Dunno. Except we hear that this was very likely filed - doubting there’s anything potential about it.

Every District and Circuit Court has a computer system where every filed case resides. Any lawyer can access it (provided they pay their yearly dues) and you can probably access it at any law library. You can also go to the court and look on their public access computers.

Nothing in the Williamsburg-JCC system about Coach Swanson.

You’re right, but I did the rabbit hole thing anyway. Can’t say it’s the first time I’ve wasted time. I couldn’t find any suit in WJCC naming Coach Swanson either, just a couple of recent speeding tickets. Probably any suit is in US Court anyway. But, I did find this: Case #: GC21004689-00. Engelhardt was charged but not prosecuted (looked up “nollo prosequi”). He’s an AD employee and still listed on the W&M web page.

This is bad. Stover or the prosecutor didn’t move forward but it’s bad when a student-athlete goes to the point of filing a complaint

We know nothing about he circumstances or the validity of the problem. It was dismissed and there's little we
know about it.

Sure, but before these last few posts we knew nothing of its existence. Like Tribal said, it got to the point that a student-athlete filed a complaint. What does he bring to the College that is worth even dismissed lawsuits?

Legal technicality alert: this was not a lawsuit, it was a criminal charge that was nolle prossed by the Commonwealth Attorney’s office. (This could have happened with or without Ms. Stover’s consent).

As an aside, it strikes me as unusual that her name is listed in the online record as the complainant. I would have thought the court would respect her privacy with this sort of allegation.

Anyway, it’s possible that whatever happened could also provide the basis for a civil lawsuit against the College and/or individuals. Depending on the nature of the claim, as someone noted such a lawsuit might be in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. To access those records online through PACER would cost a few bucks, I believe.

Or there may be no lawsuit, or it could be in state court (either Wmsbg/JCC or maybe City of Richmond since the College is a state agency).

I knew there was a reason we had a law school. :)
