Exactly. Chicago has more people than about 13 states, including New Mexico. Why shouldn't it have two or three public universities? Many major metropolitan areas have multiple public universities.

Todor's weird fixation on the idea that the State of Illinois is somehow wastefully expanding its higher ed system -- in the absence of any real evidence this is actually true -- implies that perhaps New Mexico (population 2.1 million) has also overbuilt its public university system. Is it time to shut down New Mexico State and New Mexico Tech?

They aren't expanding a wasteful system. They just aren't adjusting quickly enough to falling enrollments for numerous schools, including Chicago State. This should involving merging schools or in the worst cases, closing schools.

New Mexico - 30,640
NMSU - 18,712
NM Mines - 1,895
NM Highlands - 3,037
ENMU - 9,037
WNMU - 3,248
NNMU - 926

Combined endowment of the 5 smallest is under 100 million.

Never said anything of the sort. Get your facts straight. I said Chicago State is not closing, especially being in a state that is expanding higher education system. Merely correcting the haters' idea that Chicago State should close with facts. And the fact is, no Illinois schools are closing.
