Still, I'm not high on this candidate or the other two.
Considering there is a bagillion dollar Ford plant coming I gotta probably give him the nod over # 2
Good point. He seems the "best" of the three.
I was hoping for a candidate with a strong academic background and experience in the sports business sector. I suppose that was hoping too much.

I would be okay (not thrilled) with #3 or #2. #1 seems light on the gravitas for the position. A dean. The other 2 are interim pres and provost.
I would be thrilled with Brad Martin, but I know he's not doing it, and isn't a permanent academic. And of course, I'm looking at this completely from the viewpoint of a die hard Tiger alum and sports fan.
P.S. My impression of the meeting brouhaha at Auburn was a clash of faculty and admin over Covid policies, not specifically an issue caused by #2. As Provost, and backing the president, he was just the easiest target.
I also don't think trying for a better position is a negative, especially since he keeps making the final few.
But on the surface, I like #3 better.
There was some more to it I heard. The more was even stupider and they stuck the snartass econ dude n the basement of Haley and took all his direct reports away.

If these are THE three choices then I guess he seems to be the best.
Maybe he is an over-the-top sports fan.

So taking in LBMS as west campus and building a tunnel to Cooper-Young? That seems ambitious. And odd.

Yeah. Tying in with that here is a little bit on him from where I took that picture from.
https://www.tiec.org/teik-c-lim-bio
Quote:He has authored or co-authored over 150 technical reports (since 1986) for federal and industry sponsors including National Science Foundation, Army Research Office, Federal Railroad Administration, Department of Transportation, Ford, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, Mack Trucks, Volvo, Caterpillar, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Isuzu, Hyundai, Daewoo, Samsung, Cooper Tire, Eaton, ArvinMeritor, Ballard Power Systems, Teledyn, Federal Mogul, Johnson Controls, Sikorsky, Dana, etc.
I obviously don't know what contact(s) he may still have with Ford. But I definitely can't see that hurting the university in relation to that plant if he's hired.

Honestly not really blown away by any of them. Kinda like Tiek or Bill best. None touch Rudd.
Billy Hardgrave has a nice portrait of a tiger in the background. Might be an easier transition.
Do we know how any of them feel about football?
Although UTA has an on campus football stadium....they have not had a football team since 1985.

I don't know much about UTArlington other than it's south of DFW and east of Ft. Worth.
I always was under the impression that UT Arlington was the conservative, growing, regular kid version of UT Austin.
Since most Fort Worth kids don't go to TCU, Arlington is the closest state school.
Ft Worth is very working class (my son lives there) so I imagine you are correct.
From his resume...I'm going to assume there are a lot of first-gen students at UTA, which is a plus in his corner for UofM.
President ad interim (2020–present)
Appointed by the Chancellor and approved by the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System. The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is a comprehensive, Carnegie R-1, Texas Tier One, Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving institution (AANAPISI) with a total (global) enrollment of 60,000 students (more than 14,000 degrees conferred in academic year 2020-2021, and is the 5th most diverse student body among US national universities).
I assume this means very few white students.

Maybe. It may also be more reflective of the region where the school is located and the pool of applicants. As long as the school focuses on attracting the best students and not the best [insert race here] students I have no issue with it. The one thing that does stand out to me is the 60,000 enrolled students versus Memphis having what, 17,000? One of the things Louisville did differently than Memphis was a huge enrollment push and look where they are now compared to the U of M. UCF, similar story. More alumni equals more visibility and more endowment over time, so if this is a focus of his then that's a big plus.

Arlington has 47,000 students.
40% white
25% hispanic
14% black
11% asian
97% are in state.

I have always seen around 20k for Memphis, may be a recent dip due to COVID. Memphis has 1160 acres to work with UT-A has 420, seems like we could fit a much higher amount of students.
