Two Options. What would you rather see happen?

Option 1. CUSA and the Sunbelt both come to an agreement to Merge the two conferences and arrange them geographically correct while maintaining that it operates them as two different conferences with two separate NCAA auto-bids with scheduling agreements and some revenue sharing in place? Two new additions in James Madison and Liberty. 10 Teams per conference.

Conference 1
1. Marshall
2. APP State
3. Old Dominion
4. Coastal Carolina
5. Georgia State
6. Georgia Southern
7. Florida International
8. Troy University
9. James Madison
10.Liberty

Conference 2
1. Southern Miss
2. Louisiana
3. Louisiana Tech
4. Louisiana Monroe
5. South Alabama
6. Western Kentucky
7. Middle Tennessee
8. Arkansas State
9. Texas State
10. UTEP

Option 2.

Marshall, Southern Miss, ODU and James Madison goes to the Sunbelt and the new Sunbelt looks like this:

Sun Division
1. Marshall
2. App State
3. Coastal Carolina
4. Old Dominion
5. James Madison
6, Georgia Southern
7. Georgia State

Belt Division
1. Southern Miss
2' Arkansas St
3. South Alabama
4. Troy
5. Texas State
6. Louisiana
7. UL Monroe

CUSA left with MTSU/WKU/FIU and UTEP

Would really like to hear some of the Sunbelt people chime in on this one as well with their thoughts.

Keep in mind. The idea for option 1 is that these are two separate conferences with working agreements in place. Operated and managed by the Sunbelt

Like to see the CUSA 8 stay together and get UMass to go all in on an east coast conference that is good in basketball as well as soccer. We have a good coach that has brought the team back to the NCAAs. Most do mention soccer but see it's important to Marshall.

I think option 2 is more likely at the moment. 14 team SBC - oh, and where is La Tech in the CUSA left with. Is La Tech going to the SEC with Texas and Oklahoma?

Maybe an interesting fact for some of you: App State and Louisiana Tech have never played in football.

You're basically suggesting these steps for the following for option 1 to happen, which is that Judy has to send a reorganization letter to the Sun Belt in NOLA, hope that Keith agrees (which we know he ain't gonna), and then "all" university presidents agree to this. So yeah, that ain't happening. Option 2 it is.

I am a fan and alumni of one of the departing teams, therefore not as involved as many.

However, the best option for the remaining teams would be to work an agreement with the Belt and trade teams to create Eastern and Mid-Continent conferences. This follows the same process as the above post, but instead of creating divisions it maintains two leagues. In that why you have regional conferences that could add area teams. This would cut expenses and the teams would still have 2 automatic ins to the NCAA basketball tournament.

That would create something very positive out of a bad situation.

RE: What would you rather see happen to the Sunbelt and CUSA?.......
CUSA play smart become football only and split the non football into two conferences if we get raided by Sunbelt.
Add UMASS, UCONN Football only.
Add Liberty.
Then add non-football schools to even it out and keep the conference more regional by divisions.

UMASS
UCONN
FIU
Liberty
MTSU
WKY
LA Tech
UTEP
NMSU
This gives you four home and away. More of a scheduling alliance in a form of a conference. You can then add some hoop schools since several member may want their other sports elsewhere. In that have each schools be in pairs. Keep football smaller and odd, have all sports even in pairs.

Have football be a conference of convenience and build up hoops by pairs. Make your name in basketball.

North South split makes the most sense.

East:
ODU
Marshall
JMU
WKU
MTSU
APP ST
CCU
GA ST
FIU
GA SO

West:
UTEP
ULL
Troy
ULM
UMM
IDC
BC
IM
NOT
IN
WEST

I totally agree with what you say. The problem is what does ESPN want? I'm sure that will be a consideration as well.

RE: What would you rather see happen to the Sunbelt and CUSA?.......
At this point I'm ready for option 2. Although I would miss WKU and I think their basketball program would help satisfy the goal of SB trying to get better basketball.

The more I've had time to think about it, the less likely I think I would be happy with Liberty in the conference. From a purely athletic standpoint, it seems like they would get to play by different rules than the rest of us (esp JMU and ODU in the same state). It's about as close to pay-to-win as you can get.

I was under the impression the remaining CUSA 8 presidents balked at the idea of Liberty...

The following CUSA COULD have worked IF we fired Judy on Tuesday, but we didn't...

Marshall
UTEP
NMSU/MSU
FIU
WKU
MTSU
La Tech
ODU
JMU
Liberty

That would have been a good basketball conference. Probably the worst football in FBS, but with a new commissioner, new media deal, it could have worked.

The fact Judy kept her job is all I need to see.

This hurts to read.

As a Southern Miss fan I can sympathize with your feelings. Hopefully we can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
