It is really all down to jmu.

Marshall and odu are already in bed together.

They are just bored in their current home and looking for a young outsider to come spice it up.

JMU holds few cards. The longer they “monitor” the situation the more likely they are dealt out of the game

I think we did try to do the best of the rest conference, East Coast whatever you have you, and that fell through.

We then reached out to JMU and Liberty to join the remnants in computer say and make it a 10 team league. Then Southern Miss joined. All within the last 2 days.

Now we will sit back and probably join on the coattails of JMU and odu. We tried to do what we thought would be the best for marshall, and ultimately I think joining the Sunbelt will be the best for us, but we were never going to get into that market snobbery aac, the Sunbelt is a good culture fit for us.

Does anyone know why not WKU? Is it because they wouldn't get the votes? An App fan posted that WKU made a pitch to the SBC and the Western SBC teams said NO.

Is that true?

Is WKU really that great of an add for a football first conference?

One of the holdups is finding a home for our sports that the SB doesn’t sponsor.

That takes time and requires extra calls.

Ie - where does our women’s lacrosse program, national champions in 2018, go? We have to make the calls to find a home for them. They could stay in the caa, but you can imagine that conversation:

“Hey caa, uh, yea, so we are leaving home for good, but can we leave some luggage behind?”

It takes time to work these things out.

I am sure it would take some convincing and crow eating by WKU for Troy, stAte, UL, ULM, and USA to want us back. We did leave. We were the last to leave and only after our rival left, but at the end of the day we left. I know we have Troy on our OOC schedule coming up, and have played them in basketball OOC so they at least will talk to us. I would think maybe the others might warm to the idea due to the proximity (we are a lot closer to the SBC West than JMU or ODU) but it is what it is. No hard feelings on our side, we are pretty resigned to our fate.

Yes, they are one of only two programs in CUSA 3.0 that have finished the season ranked in the top 25. Marshall was the other.

They are a good football program. They're in a process of rebuilding right now, but Marshall fans do have respect for Western. Typically CUSA East has always come down to either Marshall, Western or FAU.

I mean wouldn't Marshall, WKU, ODU, and USM who are all FBS be the smarter addition. JMU most likely stays FCS at that point.

Either way I'm cool with both these options so whichever works out then let it be.

. . . careful there Troy, you’re starting to make sense, and that’s the last thing to apply to these realignment scenarios .. .

I doubt the other presidents and ADs care what you do with Women's Lacrosse.

We don't care what Marshall does with soccer either.

I'd heard that WKU had already made overtures to rejoin, but my bet, if that happened, would be that WKU would stay in CUSA as well. Then again, it's probably just as likely, or even more likely, that the decisions have already been made and they're just waiting for a time to announce.

half sarcasm and probably half truth.....Marshall is glad that CUSA lost 3/4 of the Texas schools as i feel like there was a MAJOR disconnection there. Now there are reports that CUSA "could" get a combo of JMU and/or Liberty. So now Marshall's travels to Texas (UTEP only) are greatly reduced down to probably once every 4-6 years, they now have 1 or 2 more schools in much closer proximity, there's no exit fees and they gain a one time influx of cash from the 7 schools (AAC x 6, Sun Belt x 1) leaving

Marshall
ODU
WKU
MTSU
Liberty
JMU
FIU
LT
UTEP
10th team???

That’s a dangerous game to play for such a short term benefit

Marshall has a long storied history at the FBS level. If these reports are true they are really just following whatever the FCS call up does.

Tough look for Marshall.

10th team???

I dont think thats off base at all. CUSA is much better off without the teams that left with the exception of UAB. Not that theres anything wrong with the rest. I like them, but the conference is more compact and better in basketball now. The AAC did take a lot of dead weight off of CUSA, and solved their geography problem for them.

That's what I heard too. I don't know, I think it's crazy.

Southern Miss, Marshall, WKU and La Tech would be amazing in the Sun Belt. A lot of natural rivalries, and the geography fits. Culture fits. Programs that care about football, good basketball.

If true, the Western branch of the Sun Belt are idiots.

But I don't think it's true, I think pride got in the way of Western, it seems like any program that left the Belt is getting the cold shoulder.

Hey don’t blame the Western branch, I’d be fine with that line-up. I hear it’s a school in Boone and Marshall all hot for some “mythical” Eastern Based Conference gumming up the works . . . but then it’s all message board fodder, so can any of it be believed?

Well, they seemed to be “good enough” before. I mean they are a former member, and unlike JMU are already FBS and ready on day 1 . . no transition required.

Out of all the assumptions being thrown out (CUSA's future media deal, CUSA's future makeup, AAC's future money) saying WKU will stay in the CUSA if MU and ODU do might be the biggest I've seen.
