So we can go after ECU, right, right? Screw the AAC before they can even get their new additions and then C-USA is stuck with a super mega G5 conference on CBSSN and Facebook live!

Memphis, SMU, USF, and Tulsa leave. Navy goes Indy. We end up with USM and ECU and are good to go.

Make it happen Gill

If you guys take ODU and JMU too then Temple might be on board as well, but that might be stretching the borders a little thin.

What's not to like about an eastern division comprised of:
Marshall
JMU
ODU
Ga Sou
Ga St
Coastal
App St

If this really is on the back room boards, to me it would seem like an easy decision. Isn't it basically the coveted eastern league, minus WKU and MTSU? BTW, I really hope WKU lands on their feet after the smoke clears.

RE: CBS Sports: SBC & CUSA Considering adding Teams in Expansion
As far as I'm concerned, if that's what Marshall has been dragging their feet on, forcing the Sun Belt to slow play its hand, let them go. Maybe it's a petty thought but in the business world, if you hold up a purchasing contract like this, while reassuring people it may happen in a few weeks, then work to undercut the business you are courting to stay with someone else for whatever reason, it's a bad rap.

I get that everything is fluid until it solidifies but if it got to the point where you were just figuring out what to do with soccer and then you jump ship, not a great look.

Still don't understand the draw of staying in C-USA as opposed to joining a Sun Belt conference with USM, ODU, and JMU. You get your wish list and get out of the now very disjointed map of C-USA.

I have my doubts. It is starting to smell an awful lot like Independence. Collect the exit monies, shake hands with MTSU, UTEP, FIU, and LaTech. Go to the A-10 or MVC in Olympic sports and schedule football as an independent with the aforementioned teams along with Liberty, UMass, UConn, NMST and Army. See what happens after the next wave. 05-sosad

Screw it, mega conference it is, but under Sun Belt leadership.

Would be great to pull Temple and ECU from the AAC. I know people say 16 wouldn't work, and maybe it's a bad idea. But you have a gulf league and then an Atlantic league.

They seems to be thinking which is best. SBC if they do go to 14 with those adds or they can just have them in CUSA and collect exit fees.

I would assume they prefer SBC with their bubble over CUSA with their bubble.

I'd think he's a master salesman.

I wonder what ESPN's play is here. Do we get an increase in linear games due to increased numbers? Good basketball schools, good football schools, decent markets, buildable or stable brands.

I'm fine with it.

But the last thing we need is Marshall and JMU working with Liberty. Liberty made some backroom promises the last go round. Offering donations to all Sun Belt schools for a yes vote; everyone voted no.

Who is to say that JMU or Marshall don't accept such a bribe to stick it out in C-USA with Liberty? Thats the major question here. What is Liberty's angle? How are they swindling JMU and Marshall? Is ODU able to be swindled as well? Is there a Virginia brotherhood thing or will the state schools shun the private controversial university that operates as a semi-slush fund?

we do not have a strong history or bond with LU at all.

and honestly think LU's arrogance and cash will make them think they are fine going it alone.

Virginia schools like being in a conference together and don't get caught up in petty territorial mess like other areas seem to do.

I am sure the AAC payout is going to get slashed but I believe they get 7M right now we only get 1M+/- IIRC

Keith Gill's former position as AD at Richmond probably helps with talks toward both ODU and JMU.

Agree, the only thing left of my wish list is ECU. I doubt Temple would be interested, but if the finances worked one day...

I know. I just wonder what their deal will look like after that fund dries up. It's believed that the Sun Belt payout is increasing next year. If it goes up much more, we will be making ad much as the New additions to the AAC.

That's hugeeeeeeer than anyone can really comprehend given where the AAC was and where the Sun Belt was.

highly disagree. ODU brings in 18k to watch a losing FB product. The fans are there. The coach is new. Their basketball will elevate the SBC. JMU brings in great softball and good football with large crowds.

I meant from their (ODU, Marshall, JMU) perspective.

Have you watched JMU football? They come in and would easily compete in the Top 60% of the conference, which is actually really good right now.

Softball?

If academics are your thinf, they bring that.

They also bring streamers...and a lopsided stadium, but who am I to judge?

They are also owed payback...or a reckoning, from 2008 or 2009...
