Don’t get this at all for the AAC. Why go so hard on Texas? And 14 teams? No room for future expansion. Basketball quality also goes out the window.

This will throw a wrench into any MWC expansions plans if the CUSA schools to the AAC. Don't think any of the SBC TX programs would be considered for the MWC. It won't happen, but I wish the MWC would take UTEP. I have complete respect for UTEP but they are just so far out there and it's about to get a lot worse if this AAC expansion holds up.

The other thing this opens the door for is C-USA disintegrating. If they get down to 4 or less members, I think there is a chance they are done.
If UTEP and Texas State go to the MW, and the Sun Belt grabs Southern Miss, Marshall, and Western Kentucky to get to 12, C-USA would be down to 4 schools: FIU, LaTech, Old Dominion, and MTSU.

At that point, ODU and MTSU would likely be begging either the Sun Belt or MAC to let them in.

Not a terrible set up if they don’t lose anyone to MWC or SBC.
Probably will lose some though.

Missouri State, Liberty, JMU, Sam Houston would honestly make the conference more competitive than before.

to me the 2 to watch out for major growth like UCF- Charlotte and UTSA. Those 2 programs are ones that I could see in 15-20 years being something else.

The Sun Belt will pick two or so. The rest will be calling up other conference commissioners, looking for an off ramp.

I'm thinking New Mexico State, UMass, and Liberty are celebrating right now. Conference USA can't be that choosy in adding members, I wouldn't think.

On conference realignment issues, Thamel is as reliable as anyone. He doesn’t speculate - he’s definitely reporting the plan. Now, maybe the plan will fall through for some other reason, but that’s not on his reporting.

Hell yeah! 15-20 years from now they could be good! Meanwhile for the next decade the TV deal probably just went down to like 2 million per school.

Not going to lie, I didn't see 14, but I think the resulting waves will be fascinating.

RE: Thamel: FAU, North Texas, Charlotte, UAB, Rice, UTSA applying to AAC this week
Assuming this is correct, the football divisions that would make the most sense assuming Navy wants to stay in the West would be:

East: Temple, Charlotte, East Carolina, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, UAB
West: Navy, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, North Texas, Rice, UTSA

C-USA would be down to eight: Florida International, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Southern Mississippi, Texas El Paso, and Western Kentucky. If the Sun Belt wanted two of the schools, Florida International gives them Florida and Miami, Old Dominion would give them Virginia/Tidewater, Middle Tennessee would give them Tennessee and be close to Nashville. I'd jump on FIU and either ODU or Middle Tennessee if I wanted to go to 12, if 14, take both and Western Kentucky. Could the MAC seek two of Marshall, Middle Tennessee, and Western Kentucky?

I don't think it's going to take that long even realistically. Those 2 will be programs that get an immediate boost. Also North Texas I think.

Oh no, they for sure get an immediate boost, while the AAC makes what was already going to be a financial haircut into a financial head shaving.

totally eliminates Texas as an option for the MWC. All that is left is Texas St and UTEP.

Maybe that is the point. To hurt both the MW and C-USA.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face?

I don't see this ending well.

And why would SMU go for this?

I'd have to think C-USA invites New Mexico State. Easy add, pair them with UTEP.

I also expect they invite UMass for all sports, and when they say no, football only.

Yeah, definitely makes the AAC the top dog in G5.

Not really Quantity doesn't equal quality.

Football, Basketball - MWC >> AAC with this line up.

Makes it when more B12 expansion takes place- AAC has all the Texas power in place and not MWC.

There's no way it gets better by adding 6 teams instead of 4, or even 2.
