Rice vs UTSA pregame
I thought it would be interesting to start a pregame thread. Rice is an 18.5 point underdog. Rice should go to San Antonio and prove the analysts wrong! Let's see another Marshall type game from last year!

RE: Rice vs UTSA pregame
I don't know what to make of this game. UTSA is coming off an exciting win at Western Kentucky, while Rice has had two weeks to prepare. It's a trap game for them. If Bloomgren were a good coach, I would think that he'd have the team ready to play, but we never look ready to play.

38 - 28, Roadrunners

We didn't look ready to play against Marshall?

Okay, in one game we've looked prepared.

I was feeling better about our chances Saturday until I read that 10 of their top 13 defensive players are seniors.

From the Thresher article:

“First off, it’s a conference game, and those games matter,” Bloomgren said.

Just wondering what you guys who were so stitched up over "preseason" think of this.

I'm going to take the optimistic view that he means "I know you probably care more about UT-Austin than UTSA, but the UTSA game matters (too) because this is the conference we're in."

Also, we know the U.S.T.A. Is probably good for 35.

So: Rice 37, USTA 35.

Just glad we’re playing in Texas, not Flushing Meadow

That's intimidating, but our guys have faced Arkansas and Texas on the road, so we do have the experience against physically superior opponents on the road. I hope that it serves us well at some point.

That would explain the annihilations Rice tends to suffer.

RE: Rice vs UTSA pregame
It wouldn't surprise me at all if we add a bunch more medium or long throws into the offensive scheme. Under Constantine, we've thrown quite a bit, but the majority of those passes are shorter 10-yard routes (or even less than that). He has the arm to go deep (first play of the TSU game) but I think they've been a little conservative with the pass calls. UTSA's defense has shown it too can get burned on deep passes, so why not roll the dice and go for some bombs?

Good idea and works for me. As an 18 and 1/2 point underdog, there is not a lot to lose. My fear is that we go up 14-3 in the first quarter and try and run the clock out from there, relying on the defense for 9 straight stops.
