Using the words ****** and queer were commonplace in male sports and pretty much all male social settings 5-10 years ago. Its was PARTICULARITY common in testosterone driven all male arenas. And if you go back 15+ years ago it was common in most settings period. IN FACT ITS PRETTY COMMON EVEN RIGHT NOW.
If people are going to be canceled for saying fags and queers don't belong in an NFL locker room and women should not be referees then you are going to have to cancel 70% the NFL and a ton of people in the media as well. Imagine how many of these people have expressed that in a private text or email. Imagine their horror if all their private emails and texts from the last 10 years were suddenly made public.
Furthermore the fact that these are PRIVATE EMAILS from when he did not even work for the Raiders and NFL makes this even more absurd. Why is any of this public and why does a private email FROM BEFORE YOU WORKED THERE mean the end of your career? Gruden has not been accused of mistreating anyone or any of his players, in fact many of his ex players came out in support saying he never showed a single sign of mistreating anyone or being bigoted at all.
Don't give us this BS that this is not the cancel nazi's coming after people, that is EXACTLY what this is. The man is not being accused of mistreating people as the Raiders coach, or even in the past. IN fact NO ONE is saying he mistreated anyone. I think most people, myself included knew last friday when this first broke he would never survive this in the current culture. And that if they had this one private email they would simply go through ALL his private emails until they had the ammo needed to finish the job.
If you let the cancel nazi's go through all your emails and online activity, over 80% of the public would be toast and they know it.
EVERYONE has said and done things in the past that could be weaponized against them. EVERYONE.
This is basically a thought police situation. In the modern era some of our thoughts and words become filed away. Even if you have done nothing wrong or oppressed no one or mistreated anyone, your thoughts and filed musings can be used to destroy you. We ALL get angry and have moments where we say and think stupid things, and in the modern era some of those things get filed and stored on social media, texts and in emails.
You don't have to actually DO anything wrong, all you have to do is get angry and say or think something stupid and it can get recorded or filed online. A private conversation online or in person when you were angry and said some stupid things and can used to destroy you and your career at any time.

NO ONE HERE can pretend they have NEVER said hateful and bigoted things in private AND had bigoted and hateful feelings and thoughts. It doesn't even have to be about race, it can be about sex, or transsexuals or any type or group of people. And yet most of us are NOT racist and do not engage in racism or bigotry. In fact most of us are appalled by such behavior.
What matters is if you have ever acted on them and engaged in bigotry and hatred against other people. Not your private thoughts or every random private conversation, private text and email you have ever had.

They aren’t private emails though. Nobody stole John Gruden’s Gmail password. The moment he sent them to an official team email address, they ceased to be private emails. It was his personal email address, but he emailed an official NFL address, discussing the business of the NFL, while working for/with the NFL (even if it was indirectly as he was a broadcaster at the time).
Anybody with a shred of common sense who has worked in any kind of corporate environment knows that you don’t have an expectation of privacy when you are emailing from or emailing to a business account. Have I made an inappropriate joke or said some offensive things around coworkers? Sure. Have I done that in email? No way.

Gruden and this person were NOT co-workers, Gruden did not work for the NFL, the redskins or the Raiders at this time so stop framing it as a work email about a co-workers. That is totally dishonest and you know it.
