Opinion: The Lost Symbol
So I'm a huge Dan Brown fan, well I wouldn't say huge. I enjoy his Robert Langdon books.

I've watched the movies, although the movies are not nearly as good as the books in my opinion.

So I read The Lost Symbol a few years ago when it came out and actually liked it more than Angels and Demons and DaVinci Code.

So imagine my excitement when I see they're doing it as a series on Peacock.

Except the first episode kinda rubbed me the wrong way. In one of the opening scenes Langdon was going through symbols and how people have taken them and turned them into symbols of hate. Swastikas were first. Yea I get that. It was a symbol of peace and can be found in places like India.

The next was the Gadsden flag was used as a racist symbol...
Then there was the ok symbol with the 3 fingers up, yep it's racist.

The last was a cross that can be found on a Klansman robe.

Ok I get it. He's teaching at Harvard and it's probably a pretty liberal place.

The next episode a cop from the Capital Building is recovering and his wife/gf unsure is asking was it insurrectionists attacking the building again.

That's strike 2.

It seems that this new series is woke. It already had low reviews.. I feel like it's because they strayed from the book again and now are trying to be woke. Just stick to the book.

RE: Opinion: The Lost Symbol
Only read 1 of DB’s books (DaVinci) and never saw any of the film/TV adaptations. Not “anti”, necessarily, but life is short and that’s just not how I want to spend my time. The book was itself was above-average example of the basic airport thriller. Some cleverness with the symbols and stuff but I admit I never to this day quite understood the intensity of the public demand for it, or the sequels. Tom Hanks got the worst reviews of his career when the first movie came out.

But anyway, the book DaVinci Code was, if not exactly “woke” (published 2003 and I believe was written 2001), still included many hints that the author was writing from a secular/left/non-Christian POV. None of that makes it a “bad” story/book/movie, etc. But it’s not surprising at all if the adaptations take the story’s organic bias and crank it up a notch or three, especially given the realities of the tv/film industry we have now.

I think I read it first. Then Angels and Demons or maybe the other way around. It was what I call mindless reading. Didn't evoke much thought. I can chew through a book like that in a couple of days if I don't have other things going on.

I'm reading Road to the Alamo.. It's like 800 pages, but I read like 10 pages on the ol' Kindle and it shows I've only went 3.. Very frustrating, ha.

Dan Brown is overrated and a plagarist...

The movies were fun popcorn movies (mostly cause of Jean Reno), but the books..were pretty much (as someone said) airport reading.

I had as much fun (if not more) watching Futurama's take on the Da vinci code...

And if anything Angels & Demons should have pointed you to how much Dan Brown hates religion and would do anything to give it a bad name, so for him to go after "woke" symbols, doesn't surprise me.

I have read Brown's two standalone novels and the Langdon novels up to Inferno. I didn't like Inferno. I don't know if I will ever read Origin.

I was disappointed they skipped Lost Symbol being made into a movie and instead did Inferno.

Inferno was definitely not my favorite. The premise was good in theory but the story drug.

I have Origins, I think Amazon had it on sale one weekend for $5 and I picked it up. It's on my read list.

I read Da Vinci code. Wasn't impressed and never bothered to watch the movie or read any of his other books. It was well written, but it just didn't trip my trigger for whatever reason. To each his own of course and thank goodness we live in a society where we can all embrace our own individual tastes.

Oh wait. Am I racist for feeling this way? I think I need a scorecard.
