My guess is that the football program would be allowed time to accelerate to FBS even if at the FCS level they remained as an Independent until they eventually join the AAC. The AAC values their roundball too much to kick them out. It would also allow Navy to play in the East Division and for the AAC to pick up a football only member. If Boise isn't in the Big XII by then, they would be the best option to counter Navy in the East especially since Boise sucks at everything else.
Boise could send their other sports to the Summit, or if there isn't hard feelings, remain in the Moutain West as West Division member to equalize Hawaii-only football while the Mountain Division expands into Texas.
No, they couldn't stay in the MtW for other sports. If you play in an All-Sports Conference that sponsors FBS football, and you sponsor FBS football, then your football has to be in that conference.
Oh, yes. That is correct. I forgot about that rule. Doesn't matter now. They're staying in the Mountain West until the Big XII comes calling.

True, but it might apply to other schools before the mess is over.

I don't think Aresco wants that as a distraction to his members on gameday, so with Boise and San Diego State standing firm in the Mountain West, I think we probably, and this is just a guess, will hear the announcement on Monday or Tuesday of next week. I don't think that's completely unreasonable. I'm pretty sure that Air Force and CSU-Fort Collins will be announced as well as UAB and at least one other. That 4th one depends on if those current AAC teams can agree on how the divisions will work.

Ah, but Tulane doesn't want to go to the East Division. They may concede eventually, but they are reluctant.

The majority of Tulane’s students are from the east coast and south Florida. Why wouldn’t Tulane want to be in the east?

Probably because of their bonds with SMU and Tulsa back in CUSA 2.0, but that's just speculation.
