I have heard there is a chance that a national mask mandate is on the table. I think Psaki alluded to it late last week - she basically did not deny it when asked?

That may be the final straw for all of these people. There simply are not enough people to contain and control the number of people who will stand up against that.

A national mask mandate will not change anyone's behavior.

My state (Illinois) declared a statewide mask mandate about 3-ish weeks ago. Every single business/church/sports league that I interact with kept the exact same policy as before. If they required masks before, they continued to require masks. If they didn't require masks before, they released an announcement saying that it was "up to your own conscience" or something similar (or if it was a store, they did not change their signage).
