Big 12 Games Week 2
KU at #22 Coastal Carolina (Friday night ESPN2)
Tulsa at Oklahoma State (FS1)
California at TCU (ESPNU)
#18 Iowa at #7 Iowa State (ABC)
LIU at West Virginia (ESPN+)
Texas Southern at Baylor (ESPN+)
Southern Illinois at KState (ESPN+)
Stephen F. Austin at Tech (ESPN+)
#21 Texas at Arkansas (ESPN)
Western Carolina at #2 Oklahoma
Houston at Rice (CBSCS)
Murray State at #8 Cincinnati (ESPN+)
Bethune Cookman at UCF (ESPN+)
#24 Utah at BYU (ESPN)

I'm predicting 11-3. With the L's coming from KU, Iowa State and BYU.

RE: Big 12 Games Week 2
Coastal Carolina
Oklahoma State
TCU
Iowa (hate to make that prediction, but Iowa looks REALLY good)
West Virginia
Baylor
Kansas State
Texas Tech
Texas
Oklahoma
Houston
Cincinnati
UCF
BYU (in a close one)

I'll go 12-2. Iowa vs. Iowa State and Utah vs. BYU are almost toss-ups though. Anything between 10-4 and 13-1 seems possible.

I think that at long last we’ve got a staff that’s a good fit for us, but we’re not ready yet to take down a ranked opponent. There may be improvements taking place but it’ll take time for them to manifest on the scoreboard.

Sure you can. If you can dream it, it can happen. Good luck.

I think Leopold is a good coach, should only be a matter of time until you guys are respectable again.

The mere fact that you can pick 14-0 and it not being completely beyond the realm of reality indicates that this is a strong conference with a demonstrated collection of good teams. I think KU over a ranked team is a real stretch, but it IS Coastal Carolina, who is a FBS newbie. I went with Iowa because the Clones always have difficulty winning that one and usually do it as a clear dog. Utah has beaten BYU 9 straight times - they gained a clear advantage with their Pac 12 elevation.

What's cool about this slate is that it involves games from teams all over the country; embracing many regions. The new Big 12 is a national conference and that may be one of the reasons the media money projections skyrocketed when the expansion invitees were announced.

Yes, it should really be a fun conference to watch. Lots of different regions, rivalries, and traditions

Not gonna lie. Rice's strong showing against Arkansas and Tune's propensity for ints has me worried about a Coog victory on Saturday ....

Cool to see several early-season rivalry games in there: Iowa-ISU, BYU-Utah, Houston-Rice, and Tulsa-Oklahoma State.

But, half the games are boring payday home games on ESPN+. One of the lamest things about college football. It's pad the win-loss record week for half the teams - not super exciting for the TV partners.

Agreed, and more so he seems to be a good fit to our situation. We don’t HAVE to be terrible. We’re a good school near a sizable metro area - so in addition to having some local talent, more importantly there’s something nearby for kids from other more talent-rich places to do beyond what’s in the college town. The stadium itself is old enough that John Wooden helped build it as a summer job as a youth, but we have some other nice facilities and the stadium is in a beautiful place.

We do have to make the most of limited resources like Bill Snyder did down the road. But we will support the program if there’s a decent product on the field. If not, then true enough, we’ll pack Allen instead.

Spencer and Jarom seemed super-duper-excited this morning about the Big 12 (I'm glad Spencer has recovered). Brian Logan's skepticism - bleah! They even said that the Big 12 invite was way more important that beating Utah long-term (and would be bigger than beating Bama!) - which seemed like blasphemy to me. They also were really pimping "Welcome to Big 12 Country" signs. I think this might be the year the Cougs beat the Utes (although I didn't pick it above). Given that the next game doesn't occur until after the Utah-Florida H&H, you could get bragging rights for several years.

Yep, there’s also lots of JUCO talent in Kansas, so it would be another boost to your program if you could start tapping in to that. You guys played in a major bowl game in 2007, it can definitely be done again. Even Rutgers is going back on the right path again with Schiano.

In 8 years Mangino went to 4 bowls, and won 3 of them including an Orange Bowl. It CAN be done. But we dug ourselves a helluva hole out of which we first must climb.

With the just-out AP Poll, Iowa State-Iowa is now a Top 10 match-up and is clearly a top game nationally if it wasn't already. GameDay? I'm also definitely watching BYU-Utah and TCU-Cal.

For sure, how has Leipold’s recruiting been since he got there?

He has a few decent verbals, although I’ve gotten to the point where I tend not to pay much attention until LOIs are signed. We’ve had a lot of players upgrade over the years from the verbal to signing day.

I’ve been reading more about his process and focus, as well as that of our strength coach. Their attention to detail is what we’ll need.
