By MARK SCHLABACH
Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer
Athens -- The University of Georgia Athletic Association is seeking $1 million in damages from Tulane University for canceling three scheduled football games against the Bulldogs.
The federal lawsuit, filed Tuesday, names Tulane athletics director Rick Dickson as a defendant individually. Georgia claims Tulane "continued to act in bad faith, remained stubborn and deceitful, and refused to follow the terms of the contract."
The Bulldogs and Green Wave were scheduled to play in Sanford Stadium on Sept. 21, but Dickson sent Georgia athletics director Vince Dooley "official notification" on Oct. 18, 2001, that Tulane "is delaying the scheduling of our 3-game series [with Georgia]."
Georgia officials were forced to schedule Division I-AA Northwestern State of Louisiana as Tulane's replacement for this year. They still have not found replacements for the 2003 and 2008 games.
"In major college football, you have to schedule games long in advance," said Athens attorney Ed Tolley, who filed the lawsuit on UGA's behalf. "It's an extreme hardship when games are canceled without advance notice. We've made efforts to resolve this issue with authorities at Tulane, but they've been met with deaf ears."
Dickson is named as a defendant individually because he wrote Dooley that his school was delaying the contract because Conference USA had increased the number of league games from seven to eight. But the lawsuit contends that the contract was canceled so Tulane could play Texas next year. The Green Wave, which is coached by former Bulldogs assistant Chris Scelfo, is scheduled to meet the Longhorns next year on the same day it was supposed to play Georgia.

typical $EC mentality, $$$$. We asked them to get out of one of the games so it would be a 1-1 and not a 2-1 and they said no. Our new (2 years) AD has vowed to no longer play 2-1. We had Texas agree to a 1-1. Would have played a 1-1 with Oklahoma but LSU messed that up. We have the 3-3 with Miss State and also we turned down Oregon for a game in the Dome with no return to Oregon. SEC teams won't ever change (for the most part, not MSU obviously).
UGA is still mad that they couldn't steal our baseball coach away from us.

FYI, Georgia never plays a 1-1 with anyone besides Clemson. After they dropped the Tulane game this year, they has a chance to play at Nebraska this season, with a promise of a return trip by the Huskers. Vince Dooley refused and instead UGA picked up Northwestern State.

With all due respects, I don't unstand Mr. Dooley and his thinking on this matter.
He chose to play a Division 2A school rather than Nebraska. Sounds to that Vince Dooley is just padding his won vs loss record as a AD.

Georgia refuses to play anybody decent outside of the SEC and the annual game with GT.
Before last week's Clemson game, the last OOC team that Georgia played (besides Tech) from a "major conference" was in 1996 when they beat Texas Tech 15-12. Since then, they have played teams like Ga Southern, NE Louisiana, Kent, Arkansas State, etc.

Yep. USM beat Georgia 11-7 back in '96, and the Dawgs backed out of their next scheduled home game with the Eagles in '98(?). They replaced them with?...I-AA Georgia Southern

It was 31-7, but GSU outgained Georgia and made a few mistakes that prevented at least 2 more TDs.
