Exclamation Cancelled OOC football games from 2020
I don't know if this was talked about already, it seems that the games that were cancelled by Covid is covered by the Force Majeure clause of the game contract.

I know it hurt some G5 teams because their programs rely on big payday games. But it seems like we came through pretty good. We did lose the BYU return game which might have been a blessing in disguise since it was moved to SeatGeek. But we have 2 P5 teams coming to Dekalb(Vandy & Maryland) that we do not have to return a date. On top of that, we do not have to pay the FCS team(I think it was Maine) that was coming to Dekalb.
I don't want to take joy in the terrible pandemic, but at least something went out way.

RE: Cancelled OOC football games from 2020
I asked this question a while ago and no one gave an answer.

So BYU doesn't have to reschedule the return game, if I understand you?

I was looking forward to our game at Maryland since I could actually go to that game. Suppose that one is also now canceled and will not be rescheduled? I have a hard time believing Maryland will agree to come to DeKalb now since we won't be going to Maryland.

I looked up a few articles on this subject and though most of them dealt with payoff games, they all pretty much came to the same conclusion, no one will be liable for an Act of God or a situation that was not in their control like a government ordering a shutdown etc.

I couldn't find any info on home and home contracts but I would think that AD's who want to keep good relations between schools would have no problem rescheduling covid-cancelled games. But I do not see any cancelled games get rescheduled on Future Schedules.

The only thing I can think of is that the AD's are waiting for the NCAA to give them direction on a decision of what to do with cancelled games.

What I thought was interesting was that one article stated that some P5 teams game contracts look as if they found a copy of a game contract on the internet because it was just loose boilerplate info. While other schools contracts look like they were reviewed by their College of Law professors because it was very detailed and specific.

At this point it seems that no schools is liable for 2020 cancelled games and what can be executed in that contract will still bind.

RE: Cancelled OOC football games from 2020
I recall reading somewhere when it happened that those games from 2020 are just gone. NIU did play at Vandy in 2019, so next year's game is the return, but that was already scheduled without 2020 being a factor. We also have Maryland coming in in 2025. BYU is just gone. Consider that these home-n-homes are typically not payday games; each pays their own costs.

For future schedules, see https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/northern-illinois/

Note: BYU and Rhode Island were the two cancelled o-o-c home games in 2020. As I recall, NIU was to pay RI $400,000.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Maryland buy their way out of coming to DeKalb then. May be cheap for them to do too. I imagine Frazier will look to move the Vandy game to a non-Huskie Stadium location.

Thank you for the correction, I was doing it from memory. You are right, it was Rhode Island. I also forgot that we did play Vandy in 2019.

What team am I missing from the 2020 OOC game?

Home:
Rhode Island
BYU

Away:
Maryland

You are probably right with Maryland, they will buy it out unless STF reschedules a home game in Maryland.

If Jeff Compher was still AD, he would just tell Maryland that we will play 4 games at their place.

I didn't realize the FCS teams get half the payday that a G5 team would get from a P5 home game.

I guess a G5 team could make an argument that they are a better draw than a FCS team and they would probably bring more of their own fans to the game than a FCS team.

Iowa.
NIU has road games there in 2026 and 2029. I believe the 2029 game was added after the cancellation.

IMO, I think it's a strength-of-schedule thing or aids in bowl qualification if the P5 has a 6-6 record. Or something like that.

Thanks PVK. EPA is probably right, Maryland will probably buy out the game.

Darn, I thought we might get a scheduling break for once.

Yeah, teams are allowed only one FCS win to count toward bowl qualification and to many P5 schools they're all interchangeable.

Did St. Francis use a coupon?
