My only concern is that of course this crap comes out while trying to focus on playing IU.

Mo way CLF can allow this sit out there all season.

Yep, he is going to let Pete Thamel know he is not a candidate for the job. Of course, it probably still won't stop the rumor mongering.

I have no doubt LA has lots of good Catholic Schools. Mater Dei is 35 miles from USC.

Mick left. So can Luke. I’d be disappointed, but it’s not the end of the world.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I hope UC gives Fickell a salary bump so a change of scenery would have to be substantially lucrative.

Mick was actively looking. Mick was divorced and custody of one daughter. Mick's act had grown stale.

People forgot about the whole UNLV saga the year before. Mick had made more than enough statements about his intent prior to UCLA's situation panning out. That UNLV episode was on par with what Butch Jones did in Colorado and Purdue.

I mean CLF has talked to WVU and came one last minute overrule by his wife from taking the Michigan State job. And those are only the flirtations we know about. It’s what coaches at non-blue bloods do. Gets them extensions and concessions from their bosses until the time and opportunity perfectly cross on the X Y axis.

It's no shock that mick's recruiting fell off a cliff after than unlv flirtation. He wanted a exit with a good landing spot. It worked out incredible for him with everyone turning down the ucla job.

He gave us great years but it was clear he was ready to leave and his recruiting late in his time here made us vulnerable when he left.

RE: 2021 CFB Coaching Carousel
Back when this board was freaking out about Michigan state because of sparty message board land being convinced he'd taken the job, i said we don't know and let's see how it plays out.

Everyone seems convinced he won't take the usc job. Bottom line is we really don't know what that coaches will do. I'm convinced based on who fickell has turned down so far it will take an elite job to get him. Usc is an elite job. Is it a job he would want? We just don't know. I'm optimistic he'll stay but I won't pretend to know his decision process or what he and his family would want.

If he doesn’t shoot down the rumor and instead let’s this linger all year causing a distraction and some questioning by recruits, he’s interested. He’ll get asked in his very next presser.. if he gives the generic coachspeak answer, I’ll be a tad bit concerned.

RE: 2021 CFB Coaching Carousel
Last season Luke Fickell's salary fell outside the top 40 highest paid coaches. He's currently the #2 highest paid non-power coach behind Dana Holgorsen. I think it's pretty reactive to think Luke and his family just love Ohio so much they won't leave for another job. Southern California ain't West Virginia or Michigan State. The guy who hired Luke and loves Luke is now the AD at USC. The UC leadership needs to step up and be PROACTIVE and pay the man including his assistants. Luke Fickell is a big reason why we got the invite to the B12. No question about it. UC pay the man that helped get your program back on track after hiring two meh coaches in Jones and Tubberville. Pay the man at least to get him in the Top 25 of coaching salaries and end this constant shiiit we go through every year. Extend his contract. Do everything you can to make it as hard as shiiit for him to leave. Do it NOW!!!!

UC is heading to the big leagues with the Big 12 news, which gives UC access to more resources, more recruiting opportunity, and direct access to the playoff.

Luke's wife is from the small, conservative town of Spencerville, OH. She's from a big family of 10 kids and my understanding is that the family is really close and Amy likes being close to home.

Both Amy and Luke have lived in Ohio their entire lives.

Fick's son is a freshman on the team.

Amy's sister is married to Ohio State great Bobby Hoying, they live in Columbus where Bobby is part owner of the large real estate development company Crawford Hoying. Their son (Fick's nephew) committed to UC as a preferred walk on at QB.

Both Luke & Amy are politically conservative (because they're smart), Amy has small town roots and she lives 2 hours from her parents.

I would be shocked if she is ok with dropping her family into the epicenter of one of the largest and most liberal cities in America that just so happens to be 2,200 miles away from her family.

USC ain't happening. Ohio State, definitely. Notre Dame, definitely. USC, nope.

He's being listed as a candidate with James Franklin, Mario Cristobal, and Urban Meyer. That is a terrific endorsement of what Luke has built that he's not seen as a sure fire bet to leave even if USC threw the sink at him.

We didn't think we'd ever get into the P5 either. I just think it's a bit naive for anyone to think they know what another person will do or won't do when presented with an opportunity. I want our university to do everything they can to NOT assume he wouldn't leave for one of the top jobs in college football. I think Mike Bohn is a wildcard in all of this. Until I see his name come off the board for consideration then it is possible that he would accept the USC job.

I'll take this as a solid indication. And, can we please stop calling this a rumor? While based upon performance and a relationship, it's pure speculation. And he'll always be mentioned as a top candidate for the blue blood jobs.

Exactly this Mark. This isn't fear mongering. What would any of us do in our careers when offered one of the top jobs? There's a lot of factors involved and most people would think everything through and make a decision. And, I'm not saying he will take the USC job if offered. That said, I'm not going to slam dunk anything at this point to say it's not possible. That's why the sooner we can nip this in the bud the better. It is going to become a bigger and bigger distraction as time goes along. Dear Lord, wait until we get to the bye week before Notre Dame.

Lighten up, Francis.

I was making a point that Los Angeles is not exactly the most desirable place in our great country for conservative leaning people with small town roots. The "because they're smart" comment was a tongue in cheek joke, no need to get yer panties in a wad.

Fickell is going to be a top candidate until he says he isn't. But I'm assured by Chad's reply, and by the increased resources our program will soon enjoy. And, the more I think of it, he'll have to make a statement of some sort before too long. Such a difficult time to fire a head coach.
