Pass! Had their chance. I would much rather add Marshall and Southern Miss

My pick of just adding 2 is still Marshall and USM. I agree, we need to shed the “move up conference” image, and get an image of power of taking other FBS schools from an existing FBS conference. No past SBC schools, sorry, you made your decision, now live with it.

14 might be too many teams, especially considering we also have two non-football members. We only need to add teams if it increases our bottom line. I know there are different thoughts on how to do that. We aren’t going to get a lot of TV dollars, so the logical place to make money is through CFP appearances and NCAA Tournament credits. Does going to 14/16 with this lineup help us in that regard? Let’s not forget - the CFP format hasn’t officially changed yet…

That’s why I think the additions need to be teams that will put butts in the seats. Marshall does that for App, Coastal, GaSt and GaSo. USM does that for South, Troy and Louisiana. In years past, like 15 years ago, I’ve been to home UAb games against USM, at that time, USM traveled very well, and it was a Thursday night game. USM was a much better program then, which I think they can be again.

USM traveled well to ASU also.

Do you know some inside information, or is this just your gut feeling? *Fingers crossed* Please say inside info, please say inside info, haha.

In all seriousness it does feel like something is brewing on the Marshall side of things. What that is I have not a clue, but there seems to be some smoke.

Nothing is happening this year. It's all talk and planning. Everybody is putting out feelers. As for the ESPN contract. It makes the Belt more attractive to any potential new member.

Perhaps the monetary changes of the FG contract aren’t disclosed as they are variable depending on the number of teams.

Agreed, we should expand based on who can improve the league the most.

RE: JMU and the SBC?
I know JMU has good athletics and an AAC-level budget...

But honestly, I don't see the AAC giving them an invite. Not because they aren't a good program, but because adding a team straight from FCS does damage to their "P6" reputation that they've been working hard to push.

I personally would rather have Marshall or USM, because it's time for the SBC to shed the "FCS feeder conference" shirt it has worn for most of its life.

Whoever is added if they improve the conference and it’s obvious they would and they choose not to your where you belong. If they’re not beating down the door it’s a no for me.

The 16 team WAC and the last iteration CUSA should be examples of not what to do in a NP5 conference. A power conference can probably go beyond 12, they will have the money to do so. A NP5 conference should either be 9 (Round Robin, no conference championship game) or 10/12 (5/6 per division, championship game).

Anything after 12 you start feeding to many. And also start having splinter groups in the conference.

JMUs budget is not impressive when you realize it’s propped up with student fees. I honestly used to want to see them move up, but I’m slowly changing my mind. They have the most ridiculous and unrealistic fan base in America. I’m serious, I’ve never seen a bunch of FCS fans thump their chests as much as JMU fans. They are already sliding back to being just another FCS program, let them stay there and become Wofford who plays in a nicer stadium.

Are you the fella who got his feelings hurt on our board? Sorry about that, but you came across as condescending.

We’re far from Wofford, and also far from sliding back. Yea, we have high student fees due to The state forcing us to show exactly where money goes, but I guarantee we’re in line with most G5’s in terms of how/where $$$ comes in.

The SBC keep popping up in local news/convo around JMU. Hope it leads to something this time….I wanted us to take the invite a decade ago.

Trust me, my feelings aren’t hurt. JMU fans just happen to be the most arrogant and unrealistic fans I’ve ever come across. Not even joking.

Even if we wanted to invite you to the new conference, there’s not going to be room for you. Looks like the arrogant JMU administration has monitored the situation a little too long.

We’ve got a few who act arrogant, for sure. Most aren’t.

It would be good for Marshall and JMU to share a conference. I’d like to do it with App and a few others in a southern based conference. I’m told your AD is on board.
