Troy has announced Skylar Meade as the new head coach of baseball. He was previously the pitching coach at South Carolina, and a highly sought after assistant. His pitching units at South Carolina were top 4 in the SEC, and while he was pitching coach at Michigan State a few years ago, they led the Big 10 in ERA.

Surprised Troy got him. He apparently had some other opportunities available.

He’s still employed by Troy but not as HC anymore. Said it was a “Mutual” agreement to step down as head coach.

Has always been a Troy legend, and he had some nice OOC wins as HC... but not going to the NCAA Regionals and having low RPI's is not what Troy wants. Too much baseball tradition to let that continue.

I'm very excited about this new coach though. I'm hoping he can finally give Troy a consistent, tough pitching staff.

Troy always seem to draw good talent. With this hire of Coach Meade, the Trojans may have hit the jackpot.

They did the, "Hey, we could fire you, but we don't have the money, so you want to "retire" and work for our athletic department for the same amount of money" thing.

He finished 3rd or 2nd in the division all but once in his time at Troy. But that’s not what we are use to before he took the HC role. But at the same time our division has gotten a lot more competitive with Coastal, USA and GA southern, not to mention GA state getting better.

What did Smartt in was having the most preseason All-Americans of any G5 school in the country, and having every starter back but one..... and finishing with a 27-26 record with a #135 RPI. That showed everyone that he's not the coach Troy needs leading the program.

Really nice to see the uptick in baseball commitment from another Sun Belt school. Adds to the power of the conference. Nice.

Yes, but Troy has always been committed to baseball. It's definitely not an afterthought sport here like it is for some other schools.

Agreed. Just meant it’s a great outcome, rather than fading away, resting on past laurels. It’s what we need as a whole, from everyone, to push the conference further ahead. Good to see it.
