GCU's Marleen Schimmer (from Germany) is a great example of a foreign athlete that brought her "A game" to the WAC. She just earned the WAC offensive player of the year award thanks to leading the WAC in goals (12), points (38) and assists (14).

Congrats to Marleen!

GCU also takes coach of the year (Chris Cissell) and defensive player of the year (Hannah Edwards) awards as well. Fantastic year so far for the Lady Lopes.

I think Abilene Christian ought to get some sort of prize for their accomplishment. Chicago State women's soccer played for 7 seasons without one single WAC win until Abilene came along. If it wasn't a women's team, I'd call it the boobie prize. Perhaps a white elephant? At any rate, its nothing anyone wanted.

Todor,
Our soccer ladies are a mystery to us. Win a few then lose, lose, lose. The tournament is going on a couple of blocks away and we did not even make it. And it is a bit strange as well -- weird weather. How Lamar won its game with so few shots yesterday seemed very improbable. Ladies soccer is hard for me to understand.

That's weird, because from the soccer I've watched, women's teams have been more consistent than men, whether its good or bad. I guess mileage may vary.

But in the previous 7 1/2 seasons Chicago State had (I believe) had 2 ties, no wins and about 75 losses in WAC play. However, apparently it was just a short term issue, because they beat RGV as well this season.

At least they leave the WAC on a winning note.

My problem is I have trouble understanding momentum in both men's and women's soccer. Of course dominant teams are apparent but how Lamar won with so few shots at goals was baffling. They got just the right angles and positions to win one by the score of 1-0.

I watched the NMSU vs. Lamar game and NMSU definitely outplayed Lamar. Their passing was better, they had way more shots on goal and corner kicks. Credit goes to Lamar's defense. They were under attack all game long but continued to be in the right place at the right time.
If soccer were a best of five series, I think Lamar only wins 1 out of 4. They just happened to win the one that counted. Congrats to Lamar!

Indeed! Lamar made a beautiful pass and scored on an outstanding play. NMSU looked dominant but just could not score. Kudos to the Lamar defense, I guess. Never played soccer so it is often a puzzle to me.

Congrats to GCU on their tournament victory and first trip to the NCAA tournament. It has been a great season. Hopefully, they can get at least one win in the tournament as well.

UVU won in the NCAA last year, so I wouldn't be surprised if this years champ does as well.

GCU lost to USC in the NCAA first round 6-0. While the PAC 12 overall wasn't as strong as many conferences, the top few teams appear to be very good.

Congrats on the great year GCU.
