THAT'S funny.

Gotta agree with you there. UTSA is on the upswing. Won 7 games, played BYU and Louisiana close. I'll say you can repeat 7 wins, or even get 8 or 9 if some bounces go your way.

Texas State, while I enjoy having them as conference mates, has been all hype since they joined the conference. Lots of excitement for "next season" every year, and what appeared to be a good hire in Spavital, but they haven't shown any real improvement. I keep feeling like this is the year, but I've been down that road before, so I need to see it before I believe it.

They didn't even recruit any high school kids this year. How does any program build without recruiting? I've never seen a program with their money and facilities be so bad and make so many bad decisions.

One high school kid.

Maybe this will work. The offense improved a ton last year, enough to beat the mighty Red Woofs. Get some transfers in to play right away and try and make a difference. Most have 3 years left so not that weird of a way to recruit. As some P5 coaches are saying the transfer portal is changing recruiting and you can pick guys you know more about over high school kids that you have to develop. We will see if it works since nothing else here has.

The transfer and juco route never works.

The transfer and just route never works.

People keep saying this but fail to acknowledge that it's never been done like this before. Sure we might fall flat on our face yet again, but we've done the same with high school kids, so why not try a different route?

The transfer portal has obviously changed things but the real kicker is that kids no longer lose a year. In years past you'd be lucky to get 2 years out of a transfer. I think 90% of the ones we got have 3+ years left. And once they use their one free transfer they'll be less likely to transfer again since they will have burned at least 3 years by that point, where if you have a high school kid become a superstar he could end up getting poached by any number of P5s since he wont lose a year by transferring.

We finished 7-5 last year, losing a bowl game to a ranked Louisiana team by one touchdown without the services of our head coach, 3 other assistant coaches, and several players due to COVID.

Maybe yall shouldn't have let poor bottom dwelling TXST take yall to 2OT?

Get over it bud, these rankings mean nothing but are fun for disccusion. It'll all sort itself out over the course of the year. They basically hit reset on all the G5s every year.

Not worried about going to 2 overtimes to beat you because that was our new coach's first game and our coaching staff barely even had any time to work with our team up until that game due to COVID severely limiting summer practices last year. And yeah, I get that everyone else was in that boat, but Spavital already had a year under his belt to put the essentials in place, plus a home game against SMU the week before you played us to get some early-season kinks worked out. Our coaching staff, hired during the first summer of COVID, barely even had any of our offense or defense in place at that point. Guarantee you that game is a blowout later in the season. And btw, 4-0 is all you need to know.

And yeah, I get that these rankings are only for discussion, but isn't that what we're doing here? This is only place I had seen the ESPN FPI rankings so I thought I'd leave a comment.

Thats quite a few bullet points. Sorry I compelled you to write all that out. I was just trying to rib you a lil bit lol.

Also, you don't need to justify your posting on here. This isn't like some other boards where outsiders aren't taken kindly to. Your discussion is welcome!

I expect Coastal to regress given the advantage over their lack of COVID cases (allegedly) and almost non-existent restrictions for practicing and meetings; that is opposed to everyone else they played.
