So. When will they do away with them actually going to school? Wouldn't that be the next step?

“ In a major shift, the NCAA will allow college athletes to earn compensation for use of their name, image or likeness.”

“Will allow…”

Only because they’re being forced to

Pandoras Box has been opened. The unintended consequences of NIL will destroy income producing college athletics as we know it. The graft that will ensue from fat cat boosters will be off the charts. Basically...They will be getting paid to pay now. They are no longer amateurs. College football and basketball essentially now becomes the minor leagues.

RE: Supremes: Student Athletes are People, Too
I was listening to a podcast the other day and they were hypothesizing some of the implications that can arise out of this. For instead, could a company such as Adidas approach a high school junior or senior and tell them that they'd pay them $10,000 to attend a university where Adidas was the brand provider?

Or say if a star athlete at BYU was approached to do an advertisement of a nightclub. If BYU says its against our ethics policy for our student athletes to do promos for nightclubs, could UCLA say we'll look the other way if you come to our school?

It sounded like the podcast hosts were generally in favor of college athletes profiting from their name, image, and likeness... but they just thought it would have been nice to have a set of rules and regulations in place prior to the announcement being made.

you’d prefer the time-honored tradition: under the table ...

“next”? I though they (UNC, at least) already did that.
