Permit-less Carry
Interesting that we haven't discussed this here... I'll give my thoughts.
I am not at all convinced that this won't cause some problems... That said, I am also HIGHLY hopeful that it will provide some clear data on the issue which could lead to some real, fact based and effective changes as opposed to the emotionally charged rhetorical arguments and solutions of the past.
Said differently... I think 'trouble makers' will be more likely to carry and police will be more likely to confront them, especially in open spaces. This is bad news for criminals.... especially with the heightened penalties AND the 'stop just because of the gun' ability. I think the 'carry because I can' people will be a problem at first, but quickly get over themselves when people stop reacting or when cops do their job and nothing more.
I just hope we get some real data before things get nasty... because this is the sort of thing that you would do in a controlled situation to test a hypothesis, but we can't create a controlled situation.
Similar to my suggestions on 'defund the police' or 'representation not tied to specific neighborhoods' to do it in a somewhat limited scope so you can learn and make it better.

Absolutely not.
The compromise that made it pass this time (even just among republicans) was that it allowed cops to stop and do a background check on you SOLELY for carrying... no other probable cause. It also stiffened penalties if you get caught with a gun you are prohibited from having, even from a 'stop and check', much less using it to commit a crime.
Clearly a law designed to accomplish the focus to 'stop criminals, not legal owners' which many of us on the right support. That's part of what I mean by giving us some hard data to support beliefs and defeat fears... or not.
I'd expect something like if a cop sees you open carrying and he's by himself... he watches you... if you get in a place where he can confront you, he will. If he doesn't, he'll look for other information like your license plate... run a check on your registration (now legal) and call in backup if the registered owner of the vehicle you're driving shouldn't have a gun... even if that isn't you.
