Manchin can be OK
Senator Manchin to Vote Against Democrats’ Sweeping Voting Bill

Quote:“Today’s debate about how to best protect our right to vote and to hold elections… is not about finding common ground, but seeking partisan advantage,” the West Virginia senator wrote.

“Whether it is state laws that seek to needlessly restrict voting or politicians who ignore the need to secure our elections, partisan policymaking won’t instill confidence in our democracy — it will destroy it.”

Quote:The For the People Act would loosen voter ID requirements, allow convicted felons to vote, FORCE states to allow mail-in ballots, same day voter registration and early voting!

Joe Manchin also confirmed that he will preserve the filibuster and warned of the dangers of absolute power.

RE: Manchin can be OK
I would not be surprised if he just says "**** it" and leaves the Dem party as either an independent who will caucus with the Republicans or joins the Republican party outright. He's going to catch hell for the next couple weeks and I certainly don't trust his resolve fully, but I do think he's the kind of man to give the dems the middle finger when he has had enough.

Reminds me of Lincoln Chafee, the Senator elected as a Republican from Rhode Island who voted with the Democrats on virtually everything but still was defeated by an even-more-leftist Democrat in 2006

Yep. Only Susan Collins gets away with this nonsense consistently.

But Maine has not — at least, not during Collins’ career — been so overwhelmingly in one party’s pocket the way WVA is now for GOP, or the way Rhode Island was/is.

I still think republicans should offer him the majority leadership if he would switch and put them in the majority. Puts a stop to a lot of Biden's runaway redistributionist/socialist/communist agenda and gets Milquetoast Mitch out of the leadership picture.

Oh, that would be so cool!

Not only from a strategist's POV, but to see what McConnell would do.

Suppose, for the sake of argument, that Manchin had some potential interest in that. Do you think he would have communicated that interest to anyone in media or the GOP?

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe he has. Mitch would do everything in his power to quash it if he did.

Oh no, I don't. It's hard to change a leopards spots. He'd be just another RINO if he switched parties and you offered him that. That's just like offering that Dumb S from Utah the seat, he'd still be a thorn in the GOPs buttocks.

Keep him there as he is and if he changes then all for the better but not as majority leader as bad as Mitch is. As far as I know Mitch hasn't gone against the Repubs only that he isn't a REAL leader for them. Nan Nan runs circles around him and she's just a Represetative.
