RE: Off Season Discussion #1: Renovation Restrospective
Football, track, and basketball have bene nice.
Baseball and softball are better than they were but pretty short of what was hoped for. I think the lack of private funding killed off what would have made the stadiums look better.
I agree the video boards at Bobcat Stadium are bad and too small.

You think the new ones are too small?

I really like how the new north stands look with the second level and beer gardens. We now need to expand the south stands to match with a new Press facility. After that, I think Paulson will be a very nice setting for some college football.
We have plans underway for a brand new convocation center and Indoor Practice Facility. The IPF is going in the tailgate lot right outside of the stadium and will be partially open air similar to South Alabama’s. Our convocation center is going across the bypass from Paulson Stadium as part of the New South Campus expansion project. Tormenta FC is also building a professional soccer stadium there as well. Hoping to see renderings of it soon. There are some fans who are expecting 8,000 capacity for the new arena but I think they will be disappointed. It’ll probably be somewhere around 5-6k but still much more than Hanner Fieldhouse can hold now.
As far as donors being happy, I know several people that have recently decided to stop giving and their complaints are all the same. There’s a good-ole-boys club of donors that run everything and make all the decisions with little to no input from the rest of the base. The same people since the near beginning of the program, and unless you are giving in the 6 figures, your input is not valued at all. It’s really turned a lot of low level donors and season ticket holders off.
Don't you think that the larger donors should have a greater voice in your program? There is a difference between $50-$100 donors and those in the thousands. And that is a big reason why you see growth in your program. These fans contribute their money and influence to get things done. Support them, cheer them on, give them a atta-boy when ever you can.
Between tickets and parking, most people are spending $50 - $100 on a single game. Our cheapest season ticket option requires a $300 donation plus cost of ticket. The lowest “donor” tier available to join is a minimum of $1,200 annually. Believe me, the people I’m referring to have given tens of thousands to GS Athletics in their lifetimes. There’s a difference between those giving 6 and 7 figures having a larger voice and having the only voice. Alienating the fans that can only give the minimum is not how one grows a fan base.
I don't know what you call your fund raising but that is the $100 donation i'm talking about. I'm betting that if you donted as much as the 'good ole boys', you would want to have influence in the program just as they do.
If paying $100 for a game makes me a donor, then I must be a donor at several programs across the United States. I’m talking about actual people that have told me they’ve given tens thousands of dollars over many decades who have since stopped giving because they hand the checks over to the athletic department and then get the cold shoulder from them when they need help with things like seating adjustments and other wants and needs. It really doesn’t matter whether you think they deserve to be treated as well as those who give the most because they haven’t been and they are no longer donors.
OK, I undetstand this is a real problem for you. The solution may be to drop your program back to D2 status. You will be able to see your team play football without the cost for parking and tickets wil be discounted, The 'good ole boys' will probably lose interest as well so you get that out of the way.

I haven't been in probably three years. So if they've been upgraded then I don't know. But the two the had before were not great.

New:
I think the new ones are about 5 times bigger than the old ones. They look even better in person.
