Thursday was the 44th day that Harris has gone without visiting the border or holding a news conference about her duties as Biden’s manager of the border crisis – a role she took on in late March.

On Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will visit a migrant processing facility in Donna, Texas, KVEO-TV of Brownsville, Texas, reported.

After the tour, which is expected to begin around noon local time, Mayorkas is expected to address reporters at a news conference about his visit, the station reported.

The secretary’s plan mirror the types of actions that Republicans and other critics have been asking Harris and President Biden to take since assuming their offices in January.

Instead, the administration is sending Mayorkas – making at least his fourth border visit -- and other officials to the region.

On Thursday, the vice president held an in-person meeting on voting rights, as election laws at the state level continue to be a contentious issue between the two major parties.

On Friday, Harris’ activities will reportedly include a panel discussion about India’s coronavirus crisis, with a question-and-answer session to follow, the Times of India reported.

Mayorkas last visited the border region in April – drawing allegations soon after that he had quickly broken a promise to hold weekly meetings with the region’s sheriffs.
