That's a great question. I feel like the ratings for this class will not be very accurate, or that there will be a lot of players that did not receive a good evalutation due to being limited by covid. It could be a great opportunity for CUSA teams to pick up some under the radar players that wouldn't normally be under the radar.

I also believe that with everyone's eye on the transfer portal, particularly this year, that high school recruits probably didn't receive the same amount of attention in determining their ranking that they normally would have, beyond the top 10 or 20 kids at each position. If there was a year in the information age where you could build a great team out of un-ranked and low-ranked players, this is the one.

DE Jae'vien "Joker" Gill 6'6 265... He is a juco that signed with UCF in Dec, and went to school there for the spring semester before leaving. Apparently, he was not happy (UCF had the coaching change after he signed) and was headed back to MS Gulf Coast Community College. It's possible that he will be on campus at USM for the second summer session and be on the team this season.

With this addition, it appears that Southern Miss is full at LB, which means a good LB out of East Webster High School in MS, Zy Ford, could be bound for La Tech.

Predicted this about a month ago.

LA Tech got a commitment this week from Marshall, Texas kicker Buck Buchanan. His other choices were Air Force and Yale.

WR Latreal Jones 6'2 195... most had him pegged to commit to Auburn. However, when Aub fired their WR coach over the weekend, Jones promptly committed to Southern Miss. Jones played high school ball with the true freshman QB that is currently starting for the Golden Eagles. He is a burner that can play in the slot or out wide.

This stuff is much harder to measure nowadays, because the transfer portal has taken on a much larger role in recruiting.

We’re going to have a very small class. They are balancing the scholarships sine they gave an additional year.
