asking SDSU would be an exercise in futility. Roughly half of the teams in the American are in states that are on that list. I think that Aresco/The American could do a great thing by suggesting to SDSU that.... if it weren't for that pesky stupid law y'all passed in 2017... we could get you guys in. But until that law is rescinded.... sorry dudes..... MAN.... I HATE it... but....
"Oh, don't worry about that, Mr. Aresco. We've found technical ways to get arou.."
NO!.... No, no.... We don't want to violate the spirit of your law, even if you've found some smarmy 'laws for thee, but not for me' solution to your misguided legislature's actions. You just let us know when you want to rejoin the Union."

RE: The AAC needs to put pressure on the state of California
I’m hearing good things about the new Aztec Stadium, and the Mission Valley project overall.
As for realignment, whatever happens, happens. But I do think there will *Eventually* be a unified, coast-to-coast, “best of the rest” league. Probably a 98% chance that it will be the AAC. The time isn’t quite yet ripe for that. But when it is, San Diego State will be a prime candidate.

BYU could make that happen tomorrow. However, without them it makes it difficult to move to 12 schools that would justify the increased travel expenses for non-revenue sports. If ESPN gave the AAC $10-15M/school (which is probably their true value), then it could work.

That's why UCLA played the return game at Memphis in 2017.
Oh, and here you go for your viewing pleasure...
Yeah, but others have cited all of the OOC games for California teams coming up with teams in some of those states, so I don't know if this is really a road block or not.
