I have the new logo posted next to my monitors at work thinking that it will eventually grow on me. I am seriously trying to give it a fair shot. Sorry, but I'm just not buying into it at this point.

The traditional "ghost bronco" that I absolutely love is my equivalent to the MSU Spartan logo -- which is also "ghosted". The Spartan athletics logo is top 20 (maybe even top 10) in the nation. It's an iconic nationwide brand at this point.

Take a look at this graphic comparison of the two logos:

I like his rationale and decision making. I think branding is key, and his Marketing 101 primer is a very good presentation.

It's going to work. For a number of reasons, basics marketing and branding being one of them.

I'm all in and like everything about it myself.

MidwayIcer -- You're certainly entitled to your opinion. However, I, like many others, have admired the Spartan logo: https://saturdaytradition.com/michigan-s...-logo-cfb/

The traditional ghost Bronco is spot on, imo.

I was pretty much done with this thread until it was pointed out that social media is blowing up over the new logo. And I haven't said a word outside this forum.

When anyone expresses their positive opinion and wish for the best, you post right back to try to dismiss and take it back negative.

I think we get your view.

I respect your opinion but I think you're in minority from the looks of this forum and social media in general.

I'm not sure that I'm following. Are you saying that the point of this thread is to be negative about the logo and dismiss any other opinions?

The point of this message board is to discuss things that are relevant with Western Michigan University. When they unveil a very bad looking logo that makes us look like a local high school trying our best to not get sued by WMU for using their logo - we should criticize that.

Ok, I never said not to I think? My point with this thread is when a few of us said we liked it and agreed with the rationale, we got dismissed and told our take was wrong because of Sparty?

I don’t know about this small group here, weird is the word.

You asked if the point of this thread was to be negative about the logo. The answer is yes. Because it's really bad.

*gestures at the hundreds of negative comments on this board and all over social media by a large majority of WMU students/alumni/staff as they continue to roll it out*

Social media isn’t the definitive answer, and in this case, the buy-in long term will be.

There is nothing wrong with taking a shot at bringing some continuity to the branding.

Problem is... they just missed the mark. They never reached out to alumni... they apparently left the athletic programs in the dark...

I’ll say this... not one person I’ve spoken with who has seen the update hasn’t either laughed or got pissed. It’s ridiculous to spend the money on this at this point in time... and then spending the money on what they came up with... pathetic.

If you take my opinion as a dismissal toward your post then your simply wrong.

I have always thought the traditional Spartan athletic logo was one of the top logos in the country. My point is that I believe our traditional ghost Bronco logo was equivalent in substance which IN MY OPINION makes it one of the better logos in the country. I don't see the same qualities in the new logo.

Absolutely. They could have tightened up the 2011 rebrand (like reducing the number of colors from 6 to 3) instead of turning it on it's head -- no pun intended.

LOL! OK. Maybe I deserve that but it's only out respect for its national image. We finally got that here through the ghost Bronco only to end up in the trash bin.

I agree, let's get back to Bronco talk...
