I can think of a half dozen high schools in DC that would make more sense as D-I members than UDC lol

Which is largely the point - the well ran dry with NJIT.

One other school that said they wanted D1 was D3's Rowan. They could be licking their lips seeing how St. Thomas got a waiver to join from D3 to D1.

More than likely for Rowan is they'll explore D2. They did a feasibility study, and when it floated out there about some interest in something beyond D3, you then saw other NJASCU schools (Montclair, Stockton, TCNJ) studying D2.

Personally, they look to be in a worse spot than West Chester. Also in the shadows of the Philly area, but in a state with plenty of small private and public schools.

Honestly ask who would take Rowan? AmEast? After what NJIT just went through? NEC? Like FDU or the NYC area schools would be cool with that? MAAC with Rider, Monmouth, and St. Peter's in there? No chance.

There's a reason NJIT couldn't find a full way into NEC or MAAC. The politics run deep in the North Atlantic/New England private schools. Rowan would have it far worse. Though, I do think Rowan would have a better shot at AmEast than West Chester. Rowan is kind of the alpha of the NJASCU schools.

I would still think West Chester would have the better shot. They're already D2, and are more or less the alpha of the PSAC schools.

Is IUP the same as IUPUI?

No. IUP is the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The name kind of reminds me of Miami University of Ohio.

IUPUI is Indiana University-Purdue University @ Indianapolis.

Not to be confused with CUP, California University of Pennsylvania, located in California, Pennsylvania.

There are 13 "University of Pennsylvania" schools in the PSAC, all of which are governed by PASSHE. This of course does not include the private University of Pennsylvania in the Ivy League, which is commonly just "Penn". The PSAC schools should be thought of as UP-Lock Haven or UP-California - it's just there's no PUBLIC school that is "the" University of Pennsylvania. Penn State has their own system that is separate from PASSHE, so branding them as "Penn State-whatever" was also unavailable.

Before 1983, most/all of the PASSHE schools went on the handle “State College,” before this “University of Pennsylvania” one they now have. Some should revisit that old name, imo.

Maybe the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) had issues with PASSHE universities calling themselves UP-whatever. Personally, I think that each PASSHE institution should be able to call itself whatever it wants to, within legal boundaries. Indiana University of Pennsylvania and West Chester University of Pennsylvania have had their names for years, so I highly doubt that they would change. Other PASSHE institutions might open to name changes though. Some might even consider merging in with the Penn State system, if Penn State and the Commonwealth (State) of Pennsylvania would allow it, given the budget difficulties of the Commonwealth (State) of Pennsylvania right now.

On a separate note, I don't know why Penn State just doesn't go ahead and decide to be a complete state university like the PASSHE schools instead of being state related. I know why the University of Pittsburgh doesn't do that, and I can respect their position (formerly a very highly regarded and respected private university for several years, going back to the founding of our country, the United States of America). Penn State is different though, IMO.

State related is the best of both worlds. They're given a big chunk of state money but can operate like a private university. Not too bad of a deal.

You'll need to look into the history of how the town got its name since Indiana University of Pennsylvania is located in Indiana, PA.

Evidently all that is required is to mention that it's not known and the answer appears in the forum without actually having to look such a think up.

At least it is clear that California, PA was not named before the name California was first used for (Baja) California.
