15,000 Marijuana Convictions, Gone....Up In Smoke
Other than this and the new city/UAB stadium I cant think of anything else good coming out of B'ham. But this was a damn good move on the mayors part. Other mayors should do the same and wipe misdemeanor marijuana possession from peoples records. I dont smoke but I'm 100% in favor of any move that helps cure "The War On Drugs"

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/birmingh...00257.html

Quote:While the twentieth day of the fourth month holds no special significance for anyone outside of the incense industry (for some reason, it always smells like something’s burning; maybe it’s just me), Birmingham, Ala., Mayor Randall Woodfin gave residents a reason to celebrate when he officially pardoned anyone convicted of misdemeanor marijuana possession by the city over the last three decades.

On Tuesday, Woodfin announced a blanket pardon for anyone with a closed marijuana conviction in the Birmingham Municipal Courts between 1990 and 2020. The blanket pardon, issued in conjunction with the city’s Pardons for Progress initiative sent more than 15,000 possession cases up in smoke. In an exclusive interview with The Root, Woodfin explained that the move was a last-ditch effort to blunt the devastating effects of the war on drugs.

I live in Michigan so pot laws in other states seem a bit like they are stuck in the 1980’s. It’s treated like beer up here.

It is way past time to declare that the war on drugs is over and we lost.

Do like Portugal and treat drugs as a health problem, not a legal one. They decriminalized drugs, they give addicts health care instead of jail time, and their drug usage has dropped.

it's that simple...

raise awareness + treatment = less stress on senseless incarceration...

License the sellers and buyers

Licensed buyers sign away welfare and other hand out benefits, obviously those benefits like social security that have been paid into remain.

And im talking for everything

And yes do the same with alcohol and tobacco

It's about time. There really is no reason why MJ should still be illegal.

I think that all non-violent marijuana-related crimes should be wiped out.

I think many Democrats and Republicans can agree on that.

I want it to be illegal to SMOKE pot. Especially in public areas. Pot brownies? Go for it.

Uh, what's the difference? I get your point about doing it in public but aside from that what difference does the delivery system make?

And I mean this sincerely.....

THE SMELL.

As a teen/20-something, I enjoyed the smell. That was back in the early '90s. They are growing some skunk-ass weed these days. It is disgusting.

Why exactly does a mayor have that authority?

Just curious, do you feel that way about all medications?

Should insulin users sign away welfare and other hand out benefits?

How about someone taking statin? Should they sign away?

How about someone with a broken leg taking pain meds? Should they?

How about make a list of medicine that you personally disapprove of and should be on the list?

Back when I was in my mid-20s, it was my wife and I anniversary and we had dinner planned. I came home from work feeling fine, but over the course of about 10 minutes I went from feeling fine to being as sick as I have ever been, before or since. Still forced myself to going to dinner. My wife ordered Chicken Alfredo. The smell of it made me so sick we had to leave. Til this very day 25 years later... the smell of Alfredo turns my stomach. So I agree with you... All smells that might upset someone should be banned and made illegal.

100% ban on all alfredo so I never have to smell it.

I like where you are going with this..

Dont like the smell of poop either, so from this day forward all poop is illegal!
