HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Ronny Dawn scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half Saturday and Marshall earned its first win under Ron Jirsa, 85-71 over Morehead State.

Marvin Black added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Thundering Herd (1-1), and teammate Enoch Bunch scored 11 points. A.W. Hamilton had 11 points and 10 assists.

Dawn scored Marshall's first 12 points of the second half, making four 3-pointers as Marshall built a 48-42 lead with 14 minutes remaining.

Morehead State (1-2) closed to within one point several times, but the Herd used a late 20-2 run to push their lead to 72-53.

Chez Marks had 22 points to lead Morehead State. Ricky Minard had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Josh Graham scored 15 with 15 rebounds.

Marshall led by as many as 12 before Morehead State took a 27-26 lead after a 13-0 run.

Minard didn't start against Marshall for disciplinary reasons, the second time in two years that he missed a start against the Herd.

Last year, Minard had 35 points and the Eagles beat Marshall 101-100 in overtime.

Hired in June, Jirsa replaced Greg White, who resigned and is coaching at the Division II University of Charleston.
