Circumlocution is a terrible thing..
And it must be stopped. It is making this Board unreadable. Below has been borrowed from another thread. I thought it appropriate to at least TRY and improve the situation by education. Props to slhNavy91 for taking the time to type it out for us.

The below came across my work feed today - new senior leaders get to opine on standards for staffwork. I've edited [text in brackets] to keep from attributing it to said senior leader out-of-school.

1. Habits:
a. Take mental responsibility for the outcome associated with the [post]. Think through the information the [reader] needs to make decisions and persuade others. The ultimate goal is to answer the [reader]'s questions before he asks them.
b. Put the bottom line up front. Don't bury the lead under non-essential information.
c. Elevate the discussion. Unless information is immediately intuitive, present information within its larger context, giving the [reader] a sense of relative importance and relevance to the situation.
d. Control the pace of information. As much as possible, clarify the big ideas, separate them into discrete thoughts, and present them in logical order.
e. Be precise and don't overreach. Every sentence in a [document] should either state a fact, provide context about the fact, or characterize the fact.
f. Write such that you cannot be misunderstood. Convey the intended ideas, and none more. Your primary writing task is to keep words out of a [document], not put them in.

2. Style:
a. Use plain English, minimizing jargon and the use of acronyms.
b. Avoid redundancy.
c. Bold or underline key words and use bold subject headers.
d. Highlight important points in yellow (digitally when possible).
e. Use bullets in the body of the [document]. With some exceptions, do not exceed three lines per bullet.

...my 5,000th post here...

Ironically, I will summarize the spirit of point 2 with 2 words:
Avoid circumlocution.

RE: Circumlocution is a terrible thing..
.

There are much worse things than circumlocution, such as getting nailed and called out repeatedly by the Moderators for spouting "silly tropes" about the virtues of an AAC expansion that would include teams like Georgia State.

See, this is your problem Mr. Clampett. You are so full of yourself, and pay so little attention to what others say, and are SO RECKLESS with the quote function, that you actually believe what you just typed. When in reality, if you go back and look at it, it was *YOU* who misquoted ME and made it appear as if I would accept GA State as an add. I NEVER SAID THAT.

I think I'm great in regard to this.

Memphis blows.

Houston scum.

Temple cheaters.

Wichita MVC'ers.

The rest of you don't warrant a response.

See? It's easy.
