Blade Rollins Story
Ryan Rollins was recruited to be Toledo’s point guard of the future.

A funny thing happened during the 2020-21 season — the future became immediate.

Rollins didn’t supplant senior Marreon Jackson, but the freshman from Macomb, Mich., started all 27 games and became an integral part of the Mid-American Conference champions.

RE: Blade Rollins Story
Great article! I didn’t expect rollins to contribute really that much this season honestly I thought coming in Saunders would be the starter but obviously rollins worked hard and is an extremely talented kid and earned the right to start, super excited about his future

RE: Blade Rollins Story
Ryan Rollins was generally listed and recruited as an SG I think. Though he may end up there, haven't found any quotes from Coach K he was recruited for PG or being listed in any of the usual recruiting sites as anything other than SG. Even at McComb, I think he played pg because they didn't have a pg.

Whichever he ends up, pass first or shoot first, it's going to be nice to have those handles for the next few years.

RE: Blade Rollins Story
Thought it might be interesting to some so looked up how the other candidates for Mr. Basketball Mich 2020 were doing.

Final Five
Scooby Johnson (winner) Butler. Torn ACL
Jalen Terry Oregon. 13 min. 3 ppg
Matt Nicholson Northwestern 3 min. 1ppg
Lorne Bowman Wisconsin. Indefinite leave due to family matter. Fortunately able to stay in school through on-line.
Tyson Acuff Duquesne.14 min. 4ppg

others in the running
Isaiah Jackson Kentucky 21 min 9ppg
Jarvis Walker PFW 14min, 4.4ppg

Some misfortune. Some apples and oranges as Jackson, Johnson and Nicholson are bigs. Overall, pretty good company. Terry will see the NCAA's regardless any tournaments. All the others either have bad records or are in one-bid leagues (or both).

RE: Blade Rollins Story
coach has said a couple times that rollins can play either guard position but is likely to eventually settle in as the pg. he definitely has the handles for it and it would be the best path to a high level pro career if he can master the position. got a lot to learn still in terms of running an offense and setting up teammates, but he's capable.

He say that before and/or after he was recruited?
