RE: Texas Officially Reopened, Zero COVID Restrictions
The survival rate of covid is extremely high. It's probably even higher than listed as some deaths are marked as covid deaths even though an individual died primarily of something else.
Regardless, the fact is that certain government leaders over-reacted and tanked a thriving economy. One of the greatest touted benefits in this country is freedom.
It doesn't feel so free to have to wear a mask all the time and have everything closed or reduced capacity. The lunacy of it all is baffling.

Like how you must wear a mask inside a business unless you are eating/drinking. Or how businesses close early or bars close early. I guess covid doesn't try to attack us humans during those times.
The same people who are scared to go out and want to be under the governments foot are probably the same people who still believe there's a boogeyman in their closet.
Stay home if you want, wear a mask if you want, get a vaccine if you want, but this needs to all be personal choice. Open the country up and enough of these stupid games.
Covid is not a joke. It happens to be real just like the common cold or the flu. The joke is what we've been forced to do over something that won't seriously hurt the majority of the population.

Yeah, let's pretend people actually go to the CUSA basketball tournament.

Over 500,000 deaths in one year. That was with people taking precautions. You are correct that it did not hurt the majority of the population. Of course you would still be correct if 165,000,000 Americans died.

Number of deaths have more than doubled since this was written. If we listened to them it would be more than that. Would we be closer to Herd Immunity? Yes, but we're also less than 2 months from having vaccine capacity to give every US adult the vaccine so would it have been worth it?

Andrew Cuomo laughs at those numbers. He's probably responsible for about half of those deaths.

If we want to use the numbers and not question the validity of them- then yea 500k dead out of 28.7 million cases. Statistically that’s very low and not worth destroying the country over. Wear a hazmat suit if you want. But let others live normally if they want to. No restrictions and all personal choice.

Deaths are likely a good bit higher than reported actually.

I'm being selfish but I hope this means 100% capacity at sporting events. Really want to use my season tickets for Austin FC.

if a business tells me to wear it, i will
if a business says i don't have to wear it, i won't

my choice

my life hasn't changed since this started. i understand it effects people differently, but we don't make people do things or make mandates for everything that is not 100% safe, so why do it with this?

your life, your choice

make the most of it

Because it's a communicable disease and was the 3rd leading cause of death last year. Drinking too much, smoking, skydiving, swimming with sharks, russian roulette, etc. the harm can be contained. Unfortunately that is not the case here.

The timing is kind of funny, daily cases in TX aren't much below the peak in the summer that caused him to implement the restrictions and in just a few more weeks there will be vaccines available to effectively vaccinate every adult. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the power grid snafu though.

Agree. I will not shake anyone's hand (or elbow bump, to be more precise) who's not wearing a mask. If you're not wearing the mask you are not worth my time.

This comment right here is the epitome of insanity. You are certainly a person who should self isolate forever. I think that would be best for everyone.

Your comment is exactly the epitome of lack of care. One should never be interested in meeting or greeting anyone who has no respect for their life. Switch your brain on. perhaps, you should be isolated forever, as you would be the danger to all of us.

RE: Texas Officially Reopened, Zero COVID Restrictions
Never a fan of arguments so I'll try to be as apolitical as I can in saying that I personally believe it's too early to lift the mask mandate because I think that only about 12% of the residents in Texas have received at least one dose of the vaccination so far. Fewer than that have received two (my wife being one who has). I think it would've been more prudent to wait at least another month or more, but I'm certainly no expert on any of this and people are welcome to disagree.

I'll continue to wear a mask indoors everywhere except at home. I know that despite the mandate being lifted, the school district I teach in will continue to require masks also until the CDC says otherwise. A couple of experts in my native Germany have said that masks outdoors aren't really necessary unless you're in a real crowded place, that they're pointless otherwise. They did say though that indoors is another matter.
