Key to the game - Rockets didn't miss a free throw. Team was 6 -6 from the charity stripe. Shumate, Acunzo and Saunders were all 2 for 2 from the line. 04-bow04-bow04-bow04-bow04-bow04-bow

Excellent analysis. That kept us in the game.

Two terrific observations. Always important to keep that butterfly effect in mind. One missed free throw at the beginning? It would have been a completely different game.

RE: WMU vs UT
Good thread for player observations to date?

MJ: POY We could discuss weaker areas but get accused of bashing. Not worth the time.
Littleson: Different role but skill set from MJ really isn't all that different in several areas. I think MJ can better get around a top defender on his own.
Rollins: FOY court vision at full speed is improving but still occasionally sending the ball to the wrong team. For someone coming in as a "star," even if obviously underrated, he shows no prima donna. This kid will get dirt on him. Isn't quite ready to win against the best defenders. Gettting around Fr Hamilton was not something I thought he'd be able to do but he did.
Acunzo: Post moves improving every game.
Saunders: should get some consideration for most improved. With Rollins apparently being designated next PG, Saunders hopefully settles into a role like Littlesons as our defender and 3-pt 1st option.
Shumate: Newcomer of the year. I've not paid much attention to his man-on defense but team defense is great.
Milner: my glue. A lot more athletic than he looks. Lets the game come to him. Most versatile, fills match-up difficulties. Could be a 17-20 pt scorer if needed. Could be the defensive specialist. Maybe the only hope we have against Diggs.

Long term: depending on how Hill develops, would like Rollins more at small forward. It's a great place to have a ball-handler/outside threat who can drive. Don't see anyone on the team becoming a first option post unless Edu fills the promise he showed before the injuries (and stays around). Acunzo will do in league but not outside or against beef.

Don't think Rollins is a PG, at least not now. He doesn't seem to handle the ball well enough and there are too many small PG's in the MAC that could give him real problems in terms of quickness. I see him as a 2G type and we will have a ton of players next year in that 2G/small forward position. I really liked Hill in HS. If he is not the guy we may have to recruit a PG. Would like to to see Acunzo and Shumate put on some serious muscle during the off season.

Acunzo isn’t exactly short on muscle, nor, surprisingly is Maranka who looked pretty ripped last night. As for Acunzo’s post moves, he channeled Kevin McHale on one series of moves last night. With his frame he’ll be tough to move in the paint.

I kind of disagree I would love to see rolllins as the starting PG next year I think he would be a mismatch basically every night with his size and length and would make our team look pretty big next year wit edu returning, but I would like to see coach k put him more post up actions against smaller guards, but for all of this work Rollins needs to work on his ball handling skills a lot this summer and decision making, if he comes back and tones up those things and adds weight I think he should be in the discussion for player of year

From a set position, he did pretty good getting around Daylon Hamilton on one play, a terrific Fr recruit for WMU out of Houston. I DON'T think he's quite ready to try that with Loren Jackson but it was nice bit of ball handling on Rollin's part. So it's a bit better than I expected to see. His decision making of course, we are comparing to two Seniors. It SUCKS. :) For a Fr, it's darn good. All that, I'm still liking him at small forward. He'll be a weapon few would have at the position, presuming we fill both the PG and SG slots. Even better if dorm food helps him get a bit taller. He'd be magic.

Look at us talking about next year, lol. Hopefully a long season still to go.
