He appears to have improved these qualities this year (when he can stay healthy) but I am just afraid that he is the type of player that will be in demand in the transfer market this off season. That is why the new coach needs to be determined soon so that he can start the process of re=recruiting the players on this roster that fit his vision of NIU basketball.

I could see that if he was about 2 to 4 inches taller. He's only 6'2" and, which I suppose there is some chance he'll get interest (not sure how that works with tampering and whatnot and how players gague their value on the open market), but I don't think it'll be from a ton of P5 programs.

Maybe though...I've been known to be wrong. He just seems like a mid-major guy and would get swallowed up in the P5/6/7. I mean, if he can get the opportunity, I suppose I can't fault him for it. But, his greatest opportunity to be a starter is in the mid-majors.

The big risk is always that we now don't have the coach who recruited him (the HC, but I'm kind of assuming we won't have either Chapman or Beane next season either) so he may want to pick his next choice as opposed to having it picked for him.

Who knows, he could always transfer to Detroit Mercy.

I agree that his height will probably limit the number of places that he could transfer to but he could end up somewhere like Detroit Mercy where he has a chance to compete for championships instead of being part of what feels like the 100th consecutive year of rebuilding NIU basketball.

I get the point about NIU but, to be fair, NIU has done better more recently than Detroit Mercy who's last winning conference season will be 10 years from next season. The only reason he'd ever choose to go to Detroit Mercy (and the only reason I brought it up) is because Mark Montgmery is an assistant coach there (assuming he's still there next season).

But yeah...Wright State, South Dakota State, Loyola, Murray State, there are a lot of team just in the midwest (and I didn't even come close to listing them all) are plentiful.

Detroit Mercy just isn't one of them.

I haven't watched any EMU games this year so outside of their record, I have no idea how they're playing. Any insight?

Also, is Rob Murphy, now that Mark Montgomery is gone, the MAC coach who amazingly still has a job?

We haven’t played much; we’ve been in quarantine half of the season. It’s weird — our guys just can’t seem to avoid getting COVID.

The roster management has been strange. We never know who is available from one game to the next. We do not have a viable center, so most teams have been eating us up in the interior and on the boards.

Overall this team is in a freefall. It’s a disorganized, disjointed mess with no direction on either end.

I wish EMU would have had the courage to fire Murphy early like you all did with Monty. But his contract will expire after this season, so the end is near.

I mentioned Detroit Mercy as that was the school that you brought up. My point is that there are several options located nearby (you listed a few of them) that would probably be happy to receive a transfer such as him and have had a lot more success than NIU lately. He may want to see it through at NIU but I would not blame him if he did not want to be part of another rebuild.
