RE: WBB - Miami at Toledo
Good effort late by rockets but Miami was awful in the fourth quarter. I mean Miami was up 10 points with 35 seconds left in the game. They can't win by only 2 unless they miss all their free throws and turn the ball over which is what they did.

Just uggh. Forced 27 turnovers and lost.
No offensive game plan, very bad spacing, poor decisions, no corrections til halftime. Yes, Wiard had a very bad game offensively, but with the defense they played, should have won easily. And if the rebounding stats are right ... I don't know how it is possible for a team to have that few rebounds - should get more just by random bounces. And it wasn't just because of McLaughlin, as she only had 12. None of the players are boxing out and they are all getting beaten to the right spots on the floor. That was the thing that Ivey said before the season that is her main thing - teaching rebounding. Well that hasn't happened.
I really think the major problem is this group of assistant coaches, are not scouting well, not having the right game plan.

I don't know about the scouting. I mean they held Miami's leading scorer (22 pts/game) to 7. Defense did something right.

IIRC, the Rockets had two rebounds in the entire first quarter. Set the off tone like nails on a backboard.

I really think the problem is the head coach. You shouldn’t blame the assistants..

Yes, defensively they played well. Offensively though, a lot of standing around, trying to drive to areas with 3 defenders because players are not spaced out to allow lanes or spread the defense. I don't know, I'm no basketball expert, maybe that's what they want, but it wasn't working until about 3 minutes left in the game.

Of course the head coach is ultimately responsible for everything, but it is known that game-to-game the assistants are responsible for the scouts and the game plans. In past seasons, when Perry was on the team, Cullop often credited her game plans (especially on D) as a major reason for big wins. This year I have not listened to many of the pressers. I recall she did credit Page for the scout in one of the wins. Of course there is no one to credit in losses.

I don’t know anything about the women’s basketball team, couldn’t name one of their players, but here’s a quick lesson in basketball statistics. If you force 27 turnovers, you’re going to get outrebounded because your opponent isn’t getting many shots. Think about it, there were 27 times Miami came down the floor and didn’t get a shot. It’s tough to rebound a turnover. I don’t know much, but I know that. (I think I stole that line from a movie.)

Again Cullop says "their size inside hurt us". Then why do you only sign guards?
Of course she has a long term contract (thanks O'Brien). A new AD would fire her immediately-if he could.

She will be fired by the new AD. When Vicky Hall left, the whole program went south. Toledo should have pressed Miami the whole game, instead Toledo looked like a CYO team, no idea on what was going on. Toledo has a 6 ft 4 inch freshman sitting on the bench. Put her in the game, Toledo isn't going to make the MAC tournamnt anyway Let her get some playing time. She can't do any worse

Yes, this is a good point.
But the turnover differential was 12 not 27, and Miami outrebounded UT by 21. (The live stats were all screwed up, and at the end of the game live stats had the rebound differential even higher than that.)
Or, another way to look at it, UT has been averaging about 1 offensive board every 3.25 missed shots all year. In this game they had 7 out of 38 missed FG, or one every 5.4 missed shots. Miami had an offensive board on every 2.6 misses. So, I still feel that the rebounding was even worse against Miami than it has been in most games this year.
