43-28 WKU. God awful first half. Just terrible. 11 turnovers, and it felt like 75% were unforced. The defense is atrocious, which appears to be a staple of Pera coached teams. In this most recent stretch of games against the good teams in conference, these are how many points we've allowed: 77 (WKU), 79 (UNT), 79 (UNT), 86 (UAB), 78 (UAB), 43 at half (WKU).
On a more cheerful note, I think Bassey could be a legit NBA guy. Defends the rim at a high enough level, has shown good midrange game and just knocked down a 3 with confidence. If he develops any sort of a handle, I think he's a lottery pick.

And then Frampton hits two straight 3s to push the lead back to 58-42. Probably the best representation of just how poor this team (coaches and players) is collectively. One guy on the entire WKU team who you can't let shoot has gotten 5-6 good looks, including a couple that were wide open. Compare that to UNT which gave Evee and Olivari single digit open looks over two games.
Getting run out of the gym. WKU throwing in a guy who hasn't played all game and he immediately hits a 3. We keep saying that this team can be competitive with anybody in the conference, but I've yet to see one iota of evidence that we can actually *beat* the upper echelon teams. Even if the gaps in talent aren't as wide as last year, our inability to defend gives us no margin for error. We can't have off nights shooting the ball.

I'll be curious how quickly next year's 5 new starters will learn defensive responsibilities.

Sure, but Longwood does it on the road. Why can they do it for a game at Presbyterian but we can't for a game at WKU (especially one that's on TV)?
Anyway, my long nightmare is over because they have officially posted video of the dunk. I'll be putting away my Winchester until the next battle.
Funny you said Longwood as they actually have a coach that Rice might should consider if Pera ever leaves. Lots of Houston connection for him.
I'm still dead set on hiring Swarthmore's HC if Pera leaves.
Didn’t we have a player transfer to Longwood several years ago?
I don't recall Longwood, but we did have one transfer to Liberty, which is less than 60 minutes away.

Just saw this from the end of the game. Looks like we had two players involved in a little shoving match. Two WKU guys came off the bench and they may be suspended for their next game? I can't tell if that's Evee with the first bump for Rice. Havsa shoved the WKU player and he was given a technical. My guess is he might be looking at a suspension too.

All a bit of nothing. If you're WKU, you're probably not thrilled that a non-walk-on freshman guard is going for a layup with 7 seconds left when you're up 20. If you're Rice, a few shoves are fine. Shows a bit of competitiveness. Shouldn't be any suspensions.
But I'm also of the mind that if a team kicks your ass, you can't be too upset at the end of the game. I don't care if a kid down 30 is dunking the ball with 20 seconds left and flexing, I don't care if a kid up 30 is dunking the ball and flexing. It's stupid either way, but let the kids have their fun. And if you're the kid laying it up with 6 seconds left in a win, take the shove like a man. And if you're the kid dunking it down 30, take the chewing out from the coaching staff like a man.
If you don't want this to happen, you don't give up 80+ points and you put yourself in a position to win. Simple as that.
