Say what you will about France, but they're one of the few countries in Europe that sees patriotism as a virtue. Moreso even than the English or Polish.

Germans abhor patriotism because they associate it with white nationalism. Italians & Greeks love their country's culture but hate anything to do with their government, including patriotism. The Spanish are too regional for patriotism (separatist movements exist in nearly every province). The Low Countries are too multicultural for patriotism.

France is also the only country in the E.U. that could win a war by itself because they actually fund their military.
