Ending the home and home arrangement was Dooley's doings. At the time he had to drop a non-conference game in order to make room for South Carolina on the schedule. I was going to be either Clemson or the solo non-con patsy. One could assume he was opting for a sure win every year. That's the way us Tiger fans saw it, anyway. Me thinks both sides suffered as a result. It was an opportunity for either team to claim a big win. ......Was, being the operative word here.
It was a great rivalry and Butler's kick wasn't the only monster boot to be remembered. Anyone recall a guy named David Treadwell ???

Tater, I agree with you by and large.....
Ending the home and home arrangements was Dooley's doing - oh yeah, exactly.
At the time, he had to make room for So. Carolina on the schedule - well, yes and no. When the league expanded in 1990, and So Carolina joined the conference we went from playing 7 to 8 SEC games every year. Plus having to play Florida in Jax every year, we already had one less home game in rotation anway. So those were the factors that squeezed out the Clemson game.
Everybody in the SEC plays 2 patsies at home. That is SOP. Those games make a cool million each for each SEC team. Way it goes. If they ever permantly change the season to 12 games a year, the Clemson game would be played at least half the time, if not every year.

DQ, I noticed you picked up on my Jax game angle (the Cocktail Party)
Here something that puzzles me though: Texas has a very similar arrangement to us (8 conference games plus a neutral site game in Dallas every year), and I've seen them play 2 OOC teams home and away. Wonder why Texas can pull this off and we can't?

Our benchmark is not Texas, it is the rest of the SEC.
And this thing all revolves around money. Home games make money, you want as many as possible. The advantage to playing OOC scrubs is you don't have to pay them that much, and you don't have to play them at their facility. Florida and Tennessee raise 10 million dollars (about $35 million) more per year that Georgia (about $25 million) for their athletics program. UGA is on par with Auburn and Bama. The rest of the SEC is around the $16-$20 million mark (except Vandy at approx $10 million).
Hell, the Texas football program and its alums are loaded. If you every get a chance, there is a website that has pictures of the facilities, weight room, lounge area for the Texas football team. This place would make Donald Trump jealous. Richt has stated that he wants in indoor football practice facility (like Tennessee's), the basketball team has some of the worst facilities in the conference (Florida's practice facility is incredible).

Is the cocktail party still on a nuetral site? I had this vague feeling about it finally being changed to a home and home arrangement.

Samurai Tater, as far I know, the cocktail party is still in Jax. I'd like it if UF-UGa went home and home.

Eventually, I think Texas should be our benchmark, at least in funding anyway. :D I don't think I want Texas to be our benchmark in terms of winning. We came very close to winning the NC last year, while the Longhorns managed to lose to in-state rival Texas Tech.
DQ, how can we get up to Florida and Tennessee levels with our fundraising? We need to be with the top 2 in the league and in the division, IMO, in everything. :saber:

This is true. And Jax does have a beach...
Maybe the season does need to go to 12 games...

I met a junkyard dawg today who works within my department over here. I tried to talk him into a little wager on the UGA - Clemson game. I didn't want to take his money. That don't hurt enough. I wanted him to put his pride on the line:
The wager I had in mind involved the loser having to display a bumper sticker of the winner's choosing on their vehicle for the remainder of the season. No peeling it off, covering it up, or otherwise defacing it. Nope, you'd just have to sport it proudly on your car until after the National Championship game was over. :D
He wouldn't touch that bet with a 10 foot pole. :frown:

Now why would he not take the bet? Doesn't he know UGA will win it all this year?

I completely understand. I'd rather pay up on a thousand dollar bet, than ride around for 4 months with a Clemson sticker on my car.
Cruel and unusual punishment.

Me neither. But at least it's not UF or GT.

I had a similar bet with a UGA fan during the 94 season. That particular Dawg was aboard a Charleston based frigate with me back before Clinton decided to end our wonderful life down there in the low country. The week before the game we upped the wager to the loser also having to wear the winner's sweatshirt at command physical training every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning (when in port). The Friday before the game I declined his offer to up the ante once more (thankfully). What he suggested was that the loser have to chant something in particular at set intervals during PT as well.
What it would have involved was me yelling out "GO------------- JAW-JUH BOOL-DAWGS !!!" several times during a mile and half run. Oh, the shame !!! :red: :red: :red:

I would kick, scream, & bite before ever putting a UF or a GT sticker on my car.
