You don't understand much about energy, do you?
nope, not really...I know I flip the switch, the light comes on, and MLGW sends me a bill.

At least you're honest about it. Not enough room here to give you a good background understanding, except that I believe MLGW buys most of its electricity from TVA--which is generated by nuclear, natural gas, coal, and hydro--and distributes natural gas, so oil is not really involved.
But your honesty provokes a question. Energy policy is a huge issue facing the nation right now. We got lucky with fracking, which gives us a temporary reprieve from both supply and environmental--since natural gas burns so clean--questions. We have reduced greenhouse gases hugely by converting from coal to natural gas. But do you really think that voters who lack knowledge and understanding of energy can make intelligent decisions regarding energy policy of candidates for public office?
I'll give you a couple of tidbits to chew on. One, the state with more wind generation than any other is the center of the oil and gas industry--Texas. On a windy day, Texas gets 1/3 of its electricity from wind. Two, the first city to go 100% green electricity is one of the major centers of that oil and gas industry--Dallas. Now given the importance of the oil and gas industry to the state and city, you can be pretty sure that it doesn't have the kinds of fiat directives that, say, California has. So what is driving the change? Economics. Electricity is pretty much unregulated in Texas (possibly the most deregulated state) and when you get government regulations out of the way, economics does an amazingly good job of driving purchasing decisions. I'll add a third environmental point, this one in the endangered species area. What is probably the most successful repopulation effort of an endangered species? The whooping cranes at Aransas, that have gone from 21 to over 800 today.
Conservation-based environmental policy can do many good things.

The USA is already idiot
ah, well...that's good.
C'mon man.
hey, at least I admit my ignorance on the topic. I always thought we didn't use US and Canadian oil because its sold off for more money than what we pay for Saudi or Iraqi oil.
There is that.
Just messin with you kid.

Can't believe I have to explain this, but the price of gas in your town does not mean it's the price for the whole country.
The actual price per gallon is only up $.20 since the election.
https://ycharts.com/indicators/us_gas_pr...ear%20ago.
Additionally....
Quote:US Retail Gas Price is at a current level of 2.403, up from 2.336 last week and down from 2.665 one year ago. This is a change of 2.87% from last week and -9.83% from one year ago

Think gas going up is expensive now, just wait until Pres Dementia gets that minimum wage up to $15 an hour
