Please don't say it's because they aren't in a big market or that they don't have a strong football pedigree.
I don't think the ex-SB members bring that much value (well, MTSU and EKU in basketball do a little). USM would be a great get. UAB would, too, but I don't think they'd ever have interest.
Yes. Because it stretches geography by 228 miles in the wrong direction and because it's 445 miles from Atlanta. If you're gking to add from CUSA, add within the footprint.

I didn’t know proximity to the MARTA was a factor in expansion.
I don't know goat lovers were trying to get a date via expansion.

Problem with your idea is you have to get SBC on board, and like Cajun said, we are very happy with our conference. It’s the CUSA folks that aren’t happy, but don’t worry, you aren’t alone. There are Big XII schools that aren’t happy with their footprint either.

All is good in the Sun Belt.
The only wild card is Texas state.
If they can step up and compete then my prediction is they're solid.
If they continue to struggle they'll look for an out as they should.
If ULM can survive this financial mess they're in good shape.
No way we expand and we're throwing no one to the curb. Change occurs only if...

Texas St is improving. The problem is the rest of the conference is as well. They will have to start closing out the OOC games. Especially games like Boston College, SMU and UTSA.
They are a geographic outlier, but a good fit culturally.

Meh, everything is cyclical. I never said I wasn’t happy. I think think things could be better, but barring our December meltdown (which had nothing to do with talent) Marshall will be fine. The MAC will be up one year, we will be back. I’m not worried about it. ESPN is going to have a big hand in dictating realignment, not conferences completely.

I think the Sun Belt would be better off keeping their current set up and adding Liberty and either UAB/Marshall.

Boise was talking with the AAC back in December and then it all went away. Did Boise get a whiff of what was about to go down with the Big 12 and nix the AAC for a Big 12 invite that was deep in the works???

Boise would not have known about UT/OU's discussion with the SEC. Texas A&M sure didn't. Once they did they sounded the bells.

Coastal had a great year and was still largely considered lesser than Cincinnati mostly due to conference affiliation.
If the AAC pushes west and adds say Boise, SDSU and BYU, it would cripple the MWC and make us, the MAC and CUSA third class citizens for good.
BYU has bigger fish to fry. The Cougars will more than likely move to what's left of the Big 12.

Correct. If anything this presents a perfect opportunity for BYU to end up in an autonomy conference

This.
I think the Big 12 tries to keep its four-schools-in-Texas setup and adds Houston to replace UT. And then they'll go after the biggest brand available that's not in Texas, and that's BYU. I think they edge out Cincinnati and UCF, who would be next in line if the Pac or B1G pick off more B12 schools.
I don't think Boise even gets considered.

Assuming AAC isn't relevant.
make an east coast conference with this core. build it up for 10yrs or so.
GSU, GS, UAB, Troy, USA, ODU, JMU, App, UNCC, Coastal, FAU, FIU
criteria considered: competitive football/basketball league, academics reputation, sustainable enrollment (~20k+), healthy endowment(~$100mil+), recruiting locations, attractive TV markets, financial commitment for substantial growth
some didnt meet all the criteria, but made up for excellence in some other areas.

UAB, Troy, Ga State, Ga Southern, App, and UNCC would be an excellent nucleus to an east coast based conference and there’s plenty of nearby teams to fill out the rest.

Discounting the political pressures of the Florida Us is a mistake. With the current parity and the mess that likely follows the Sun Belt east is incredibly attractive. Keeping the Sun Belt as is would the best for all of us. Let the rest try and do what we've done. BUT the Sun Belt east phones will be ringing off the hook...
