Why were we not all over this kid. Not rated high, but everyone was saying don't believe the rankings on him he would blow-up. He is about to be a lottery pick in the next draft.

RE: Miles McBride
Given that he's a soph my first reaction is that Cronin had one foot out the door during his senior year and didn't care enough to try.

Also, the Huggins effect is still strong around here. He's exactly the type of guy Huggins used to get at UC.

Miles and his family are really great people. My youngest went to school with him and they are still in touch.

Miles was not attending school locally. His family was pretty clear on that from about the 7th grade.

He was also very good at football and was expected to be Moeller's starting QB before he dropped the sport to focus on basketball. So he might not have gotten the same basketball exposure as a lot of recruits. And iirc, he made that decision after suffering a significant injury so that probably also factored into his limited exposure.

RE: Miles McBride
Yeah, he suffered a knee injury the year that Davenport was a senior. Not only knocked him out of the football season but he missed the entire state championship basketball season...rehabbed and made it back in time for the state semi-final and championship games. He was a dynamic QB but that was it for playing football.

Since grade school everyone around him knew that kid was going to play in the NBA someday.

Seems like a number of people here follow Moeller pretty closely.

I see we offered Mahaffey in 2022. Do we have a good chance with him? He seems like a dynamic playmaker.

Because when asked about McBride, Mick said he should stick to football.

I'm curious about this mindset. Usually when people say they're not going to school locally, it's because they want to go to a tippy-top institution. If they're a sports star, that means Alabama or Texas football. Or Kansas or UNC basketball. Or they want a top-tier degree at Duke or Harvard or Northwestern.

Or sometimes they just want to live somewhere they think is more exciting. So they'll go to FIU or St. John's or San Diego State.

Why would someone who is dead-set against going to school locally choose West Virginia?

His dad Walt is an incredibly sharp guy. They saw value beyond basketball in spreading the wings outside of the 513 area code. Walt played a big role for those Bob Staak Xavier teams in the mid 80’s for those who don’t remember. X really didn’t bother to recruit Duece, either because they knew what the plan was.
